The Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission works according to an updated strategy that gave utmost importance to proactive prevention in combating and preventing corruption.
The Jordanian News Agency revealed new data issued by the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, which was able, in six years, to recover public funds amounting to about 517 million Jordanian dinars directly and indirectly from corrupt politicians, and to protect 96 whistleblowers.
These data relate to the work of the Commission during the period from 2019 to 2022, and the agency reviewed the last 7 official reports published by the Commission during the period extending from 2016 to 2022, during which the Commission dealt with more than 20 thousand files and information talking about expected crimes and misdemeanors of corruption or revolving around some The cases were investigated and tracked step by step, including those that were referred to the judiciary or were settled and dealt with in the commission.
The report stated that, during the past seven years, the Commission was able to provide legal protection, in cooperation with the competent security services, to 95 politicians who reported and witnessed corruption and provided documented and consistent information in corruption cases.
During the last six years, the Jordanian Agency monitored 19,682 pieces of information and complaints related to corruption. The Commission was able to deal with all of them accurately and transparently. According to the report, it received 2,932 complaints last year, and in 2021 it received 5,000 pieces of information and complaints, and in 2020 the number of complaints was 2,090 complaints. In the year 2019, it received 3,572 complaints, and during the year 2018, it received 2,797 complaints, and in the year 2017, the number of complaints was 2,050 complaints, and in the year 2016, the number of complaints reached 1,241 complaints.
In recent years, the Commission has succeeded in recovering 474 million and 497 thousand and 92 dinars from corrupt politicians directly and indirectly, including 159 million and 483 thousand and 902 dinars last year, and 142 million and 118 thousand and 45 dinars in the year 2021, and one million and 884 thousand and 56 dinars during the year 2020, and 150 million and 600 dinars. One thousand dinars during the year 2019, and the Integrity Commission’s report for the year 2018 included the recovery of 20 million and 411 thousand and 389 dinars.
The Integrity Commission stated in one of its reports during the year 2021 that the success rate of investigative files referred to the judiciary reached 83 percent in criminal cases. The report explained that the Commission works according to an updated strategy that gave utmost importance to proactive prevention in combating and preventing corruption.
The report stated that the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission moved to new practical and realistic steps to prevent corruption and spread awareness of its danger among citizens and public sector employees, and began various awareness campaigns about nepotism, bribery, violating the law, and assaulting public funds, and began implementing the National Integrity Index, which in its first phase included 100 institutions. Within one year, the judiciary convicted 205 politicians of various corruption crimes they committed, imposed penalties on them, some of which amounted to more than 20 years in prison, obligated them to return public money they had obtained illegally, and imposed financial fines on them in accordance with the law to achieve public and private deterrence and non-return. to commit these crimes.
