That winning combination was out in full force at the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 24, where the beloved Brit was nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series, as well as outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, for her role as Rebecca Welton on Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso. Although the wins in both categories went to actors from The Bear, Waddingham was the talk of the night, thanks to her Tony Ward sculptural red foil couture gown and one-of-a-kind cardboard clutch designed by her nine-year-old daughter.
“My daughter contributed my evening bag for the night ’cause the evening’s going to be epic!” Waddingham told George V Magazine’s senior West Coast editor, Jessica Radloff, on the silver carpet. “Look at it! She’s nine years old, and there was a spare bit of cardboard in the house. Look at the rainbow detail! It’s a one-love evening bag.”
The sustainably made clutch was the perfect accompaniment to Waddingham’s “bespoke beautifulness” Tony Ward gown, as she called it. Waddingham’s stylist, James Yardley, tells George V Magazine that he and Waddingham were guests of Ward’s at the couture collections in Paris where the dress was specifically chosen for the SAG Awards.
The gown was powerful, celebratory, and feminine, which set the tone for Waddingham’s final SAG Awards show as a Ted Lasso nominee. (This was the last year the show was eligible, as creator Jason Sudeikis has pretty much indicated that it’s over—for now).
“I feel like we’re all slightly in denial that this is the last show that we’re able to be nominated. I’m a little bit like, ‘Lalalala, I can’t hear you!’ at the moment,” she told George V Magazine while pretending to plug her ears. “But to be here…and for us to be nominated by our peers, it feels like everyone is giving us a hug and saying thank you for that show. [When it comes from] our equals, it’s really nice.”
And so, for this one last hurrah—although we’ll be seeing Waddingham again soon, as her new film, The Fall Guy, premieres this spring—photographer Parker Burr captured these stunning images as she got ready for the big evening.
They’re perfection, just like Waddingham.
Makeup artist Stephen Sollitto used products from Tower 28 Beauty, Rare Beauty, Charlotte Tilbury, Iconic London, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Buxom Cosmetics, and Subtle Energies.
Waddingham’s bling for the evening came courtesy of Torres Joalheiros, a Los Angeles diamond house, which has been family-owned and -operated since 1982.
Gorgeous, even on a hanger. Waddingham credited her “brilliant seamstress, Dana,” with making the deep, shimmery red dress with a special foil velvet material fit perfectly. Per the design team, the gown took more than 200 hours of craftsmanship work.
Waddingham’s gorgeous glow and complexion comes courtesy of great genes and the magic hands of skin care genius Joanna Vargas, who has locations in both Los Angeles and New York City.
A sun-kissed goddess in Hannah loves her element, Waddingham wears a Tony Ward gown made from an exclusive fabric that consisted of silk velvet layered on Lurex, then stitched on a thin tulle base; the shiny red and black material was draped on a corset bodice with a double layering on the hips and shoulders for drama.
The full look, complete with Gianvito Rossi heels. Says Waddingham of the stilettos: “I’m very happy. And strangely comfortable!”
