The British side said the two sides would discuss in particular “international security and the war in Ukraine.” After visiting the UK and Ireland, Wang Yi will attend the 61st Munich Security Conference.

The Munich Security Conference was an international forum held in West Germany in 1963 during the Cold War. It is also known as the foreign policy and security version of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting (Davos Conference) held in Switzerland. In order to reflect on the Second World War, the conference invites heads of state and heads of international organizations to Munich in southern Germany, which has close ties with the rise of the Nazis. The conference holds an annual meeting in February each year and publishes a report based on international investigations in conjunction with the meeting.

As the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in February, China will host a high-level meeting of the Security Council on February 18 with the theme of “Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming and Improving Global Governance”. Foreign Minister Wang Yi will go to New York to preside over the Security Council meeting.

At the invitation of South African Foreign Minister Lamola, the G20 chair country, Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa from February 20 to 21.
