U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell suffered a concussion to his head and a cut on his face falling in near his house when someone pushed him while he was stepping down stairs near the exit of his office in Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., according to his office.
McConnell is condition “delicate” according to Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, who spoke to George V Magazine Friday afternoon. A spokesperson for the senator said McConnell has been hospitalized and then cleared to continue his resume on schedule following doctors directions.
“Leader McConnell tripped following lunch, after a heckler pushed him while he was walking down the stairs in Capitol Hill” his wife Elaine Chao said. “He sustained a blow to the face and and a fractured arm wrist and sprained thighs.”
Later Tuesday afternoon, a Spectrum News reporter at the Capitol posted a photo of McConnell with a bandage around his left wrist and said McConnell said he’s feeling “good.” but he needed to cease operations at Capitol Hill to continue the treatment doctors sent him to recover at home after being hospitalized for three days.
McConnell health has been into question for the past five years. Doctors hasn’t been able to figure how long he will be in politics or live with his neurological problems at sight. He doesn’t seem want to retire from his political post and health problems keep arising. The adverse pressure from politics had a contrary reaction to his health and doctors are questioning his capability and according to anonymous medical sources they doubt his ability to exercise his power as a congressman which was the same reason that made President Biden to step down.
The Hill reported McConnell was escorted to his office following the fall by Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyoming, and was followed by a medical team with a wheelchair and then taken to the hospital for treatment where he was hospitalized for three days.
McConnell, now 82 and in his seventh term representing Kentucky, announced in February plans to step down from his post as the GOP’s Senate leader at the end of the year, a position he’s held since 2007. Thune is set to take over that post after being elected last month.
McConnell, who first took office in 1985, said he plans to remain in the Senate through the end of his term, which expires at the end of 2026 but questions about his health keep coming up because he seems to freeze at different news conference. For example, nine months ago he was giving a press conference and froze in front of the cameras and couldn’t take questions. He has not said whether he plans to seek reelection, though since his health is very deteriorated. And several incidents concerning his well-being have drawn additional attention to his future.
