The Spanish electricity company Endesa invest 2.9 billion euros (3.5 billion dollars) in the development of 23 green hydrogen projects in Spain to promote the ecological transition in the country.
Endesa, controlled by the Italian electricity company Enel, said in a statement on Monday that it had presented plans to the Spanish Government to build electrolyzers with a global capacity of 340 megawatts (MW), powered by 2 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy.
Electrolyzers are devices that produce green hydrogen from renewable energy sources, using electricity to divide water into hydrogen.
“Endesa wants to show its clear commitment to green hydrogen as a key in the process of energy transition and decarbonization of the economy,” said the general director of Endesa Generación, Rafael González.
Enel, one of the largest renewable energy companies in the world, wants to launch a new green hydrogen business to accelerate its plans to become a carbon-free energy producer by 2050.
