Her childhood growing up as Elvis’ granddaughter, her eternal separation from her mother Lisa Marie, and her determination to inherit Graceland. Riley Keough, the granddaughter of the Presley family, which has always attracted attention as part of America’s royal family, now reveals about her life.

Memories Made at Graceland with Family

Riley Keough’s grandfather, Elvis Presley, died before she was born. However, his grandfather’s house in Memphis remained in his family. That is Graceland, a mansion that is also known as a tourist attraction. Riley and his mother Lisa Marie Presley meet Riley’s younger brother and his older siblings at Thanksgiving every year. I was visiting here with my twin sister. The family was staying at the official hotel, but when it was closed for Thanksgiving and there were no tourists, they entered the legendary mansion and celebrated Thanksgiving by driving around the grounds in a golf cart.

“When Elvis’ personal chefs were still alive, they would cook dinner for us, and that was really special,” Riley recalls. “It was a very Southern menu: collard greens, fried catfish, fried chicken, hushpuppies. Cornbread and beans. Then banana pudding.”

This interview took place in May, early in the evening. In fact, this day just happened to be Riley’s 34th birthday. We were sitting in the lobby of a hotel on the outskirts of the Swiss city of St. Gallen, waiting impatiently for our waiter to appear. There were almost no people in the lobby. An elderly woman was sitting in a wheelchair, almost asleep. A bartender swats a fly off a plate of dripping cheese, and a pianist plays a classic version of REM’s “Losing My Religion” to liven up the happy hour. The sound of that chord reverberated in the spacious, bleak circular hall.

Riley’s story about Graceland continues. “I even stayed there a few times…I don’t know if it’s okay to say that.” After saying that, she put a pause between her. The second floor of the museum was closed to general visitors out of respect for Elvis’s surviving family. It was on this floor that Elvis suffered the heart attack that led to his death. However, Riley’s family is Presley’s family. Who else has the right to stay on this floor? “The tour of the museum starts in the morning, so I hid on the upper floor until it was over,” she recalls, resuming her story. “The security guard brought us breakfast, which is actually one of my fondest memories. We ordered sausages and biscuits and hid there until the tourists got too busy.”

Over the next few weeks, we hear Riley’s easygoing laugh and see her fierce side (which also endears her to her friends). However, this time, she was speaking with her knees drawn together and her words carefully chosen in a soft tone. Over the past few years, a variety of things have happened to her, both happy and extremely sad. In 2020, her brother took his own life. In 2022, she and her husband had a daughter. Then, in 2023, her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, passed away from what appeared to be complications after weight loss surgery. On the other hand, as an actor, the film “When Daisy Jones and the Six were the best,” which depicts a fictional rock band set in Los Angeles in the 1970s, has begun to be distributed, and in this work, a>. nominated. and Priscilla Presley, the grandmother who is fighting over Lisa Marie’s estate, the inheritance rights to Graceland, and the Presley family’s share in Elvis-related business company Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE). An event that shocked the public also occurred: a legal battle with Emmy Award.

Riley and I will touch on all of these topics in subsequent interviews. She also brought me face-to-face with her young daughter and told me her daughter’s name, which had never been made public. Topics include the sadness of losing a loved one and the experience of having your core destroyed. But for now, Riley says matter-of-factly in a hotel lobby: “This isn’t the best birthday for me.” Best of all, this is the first year she has had a birthday without her mother. “A year ago, I was in Greece after finishing the filming of “Daisy Jones.” When I heard that I had won the Camera d’Or (awarded to new directors) for , I was on the beach and it felt like everything happened at once. It’s a very beautiful memory. Having had this experience, I hope to I feel like I can get through this.”

Riley is now the sole inheritor of the rights to Graceland and the family’s interest in EPE. At the time of Elvis’ death, the total value was only $5 million, but some reports say it is now worth around $500 million. She is also an up-and-coming star actor, producer, and director herself. Her Cannes Film Festival Camera d’Or award was for her work as a director, alongside Gina Gamel, on her feature film WarPony. This work depicts two young Lakota boys living on a reservation in South Dakota.

“America’s Royal Family” Along with the Kennedy Family

Everything that happened to Riley this year, both good and bad, unfolded in the public eye. And that will continue to be the case. “The Presley family is comparable to the Kennedy family,” says film director Baz Luhrmann. He met Riley and his daughter when he was working on the movie “Elvis.” “Both families are, so to speak, America’s royal families.Although they are different in form, these two families, to borrow Shakespeare’s words, It is a family that is “deeply connected to disaster.” Is this a bloodline that has been passed down from generation to generation? Or are our ideals too high? Is it because we are exposed to the gaze of people all over the world? That may be true. If you’re the American royal family, your eyes aren’t just limited to your own country. The whole world is watching your every move.”

We waited in the hotel lobby, but the waiter never showed up. Riley gives the pianist a modest smile as he tries to lighten the mood. “Let’s go for a walk,” she called to me. And That pianist’s glasses playing the theme from “The Little Mermaid,” Bono. It’s like he said. Her husband and her daughter, completely exhausted from jet lag, are now sleeping in an upstairs hotel room.

Stepping through the glass doors, we passed a diagram explaining the history of the hotel. This building was once a sanatorium. I could see why Riley wanted to be outside. When I stepped outside, I was greeted with a magnificent view of the Alps on one side and Lake Constance on the other. So I asked the basic question I was curious about: Why are we in Switzerland now?

“I have Lyme disease,” Riley revealed, pulling back her long, damp hair from the shower to reveal her makeup-free face. “I decided to try to see if I could alleviate some of the symptoms during a short period of time off. Since this is a holistic treatment center, we offer menus that are not yet available in the United States, such as blood cleansing.”

Riley has never shared the details of her Lyme disease. After the interview, I asked her “Daisy Jones” co-star Sam Claflin if he ever saw Riley in pain during filming. “I heard it from her once, and I had a hunch a few times,” he says. “There were times when I saw him looking dazed while waiting between scenes. He had so much to do every day, and was also battling an illness. It was nothing short of a miracle.” Riley doesn’t dare talk about the symptoms that have plagued him for so long. Because he’s aware that he could be dismissed as the whining of a rich young lady. In reality, however, Riley’s mother, Lisa Marie, reportedly died, leaving her with millions of dollars in debt. We both looked for a place to sit on the grass. “It’s been years since I’ve taken a vacation,” she said, sitting in a corner of the grass. “I’m a workaholic.”

Maintaining a Stoic Attitude Despite the Ups and Downs of Life

This past week, Riley launched a miniseries he helped produce in Vancouver, Canada. In addition, he appeared as the main cast in Hulu’s drama “Under the Bridge” and stopped in Mexico Dior’s 2024 cruise show, and also held in Florence CARTIER’s new jewelry collection. Additionally, she is working on new projects with Felix Culpa, the production company she and Gammell started together. And now, after a grueling eight-hour flight, she has arrived in Switzerland and is speaking with me. It was also on her own birthday.

──Where do you think your stoic approach to work comes from? I asked.

Her answer to this question was, “It’s not something I inherited from my parents.” Her father is musician Danny Keogh. “I don’t have any relatives who look like me. I guess I was like this from the moment I came out of the womb.” Dressed in her smocked shirt and blue jeans, she takes off her Charvet slippers and buries her toes in the grass. “I think half of a person’s nature is something they are born with, and the other half is the environment in which they are raised. I guess I was the type of person who was strict with time, a hard worker, and wanted to do something. The environment I grew up in was not conducive to nurturing those qualities. There was almost no set schedule, and I didn’t have to attend school. Sometimes I go there, sometimes I don’t.I was used to that kind of situation, so from my childhood to my teenage years, that was the lifestyle I wanted for myself. I used to live my life believing that I was an adventurer and I was driven by the impulse of the moment, but I’m the type of person who gets more motivated by following a routine.Ever since I was little, I’ve had a strict schedule. Reese Witherspoon, executive producer of “Daisy Jones,” said her parents. From a bird’s-eye view, Riley’s career is simply described as follows. “If she had that much money and was in such a privileged position, she could have lived a much easier life, but she chose a very difficult life. She was constantly under scrutiny and rose to the top. He showed the highest level of acting…I’m truly in awe of the fact that he put himself through such a challenge.” And Reese confronts the undeniable truth. “Because there was no need to do that.”

Riley made her debut on the cover of People magazine as a baby with a pacifier in her mouth. Shortly after he was born in Santa Monica in 1989, he appeared on camera with his mother and appeared on the cover with the headline, “Elvis’s first grandchild is born!” The magazine reportedly paid $300,000 for the exclusive rights to the shoot. Riley’s father was of Irish and Eastern European Jewish heritage. His mother was of Scottish, Irish, Norwegian and Native American heritage and was “very Southern,” he said. And as for himself, Riley says, “I’m an American girl.”

The American Girl’s parents met while her mother, Lisa Marie, was living at the Scientology Celebrity Center in Los Angeles. , who joined Scientology after Elvis’ death). Riley also grew up in a Scientology facility, but her family reportedly left the religion in 2014. “Ever since I was little, I watched her father read books about tarot fortune telling and the paranormal,” she said. looks back. “He’s a very spiritual person. I am too. ‘Faith’ is a word that can be taken to have an ulterior meaning. , I believe that you can use these words to express whatever you believe in, whether it’s love, humanity, or the world.I don’t go to church, but I think that kind of spirituality can be applied to my life. I always knew it was what I needed.” The family lived between California, Florida, and Hawaii. In 1992, Riley’s younger brother, Benjamin Storm Keough (died in 2020), was born. From this point on, Riley’s already unique childhood took a turn even further away from the norm.

Childhood spent in Neverland with Stepfather Michael Jackson

In 1993, after being accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy, Michael Jackson was accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy. I asked Marie for help. A year later, after an estimated $20 million settlement was reached with the boy’s family, Michael proposed to Lisa Marie. She broke up with Riley’s father, Danny Keogh, and flew to the Dominican Republic with Michael 20 days later. The media suspected that their marriage was a sham meant to restore Michael’s damaged image, but Lisa Marie denied this, saying: She said: “I love Michael very much and I would dedicate my life to being his wife.” The couple eventually divorced a year and a half later, but there were rumors that Michael’s addiction to prescription drugs was to blame. “My childhood was probably very extreme in many ways,” Riley says. At this point, she lets out a hearty laugh that eases her nerves. “Looking back now, I can see how terrible the situation was from the sidelines. But when I’m living that kind of life, it’s still my life and it’s my family.I remember that. “It’s a family love. I had a real love for Michael.” Of course, Riley was too young at the time to understand the accusations leveled at Michael. For that reason, most of her memories are idyllic. One example is when Michael rents out a toy store in Paris (or maybe London) when she begs for a teddy bear. “I think Michael took great joy in making people happy, and in the most grand way possible. That’s something he had in common with his grandfather.”

In other words, Riley was in a position to call both Graceland, where Presley lived, and Neverland, Michael’s mansion, ‘home” I pointed out this surreal fact to her. “Which one did I like better?” she wonders aloud. “To be honest, I spent more time at Neverland than at Graceland. Neverland was my real home. By comparison, Graceland was already a museum when I was born.”

After breaking up with Michael, Lisa Marie married Nicolas Cage but filed for divorce just three months later. There is. Riley has not been in contact with Cage, but he says she would love to work with him in a movie. “He’s a great actor. I’ve had some wild stepdads, some famous and some not.” With that, she turned the subject to her biological father, Danny Keogh. She says his down-to-earth lifestyle taught her how to live a down-to-earth life when she was younger. “Riley’s life has been so turbulent,” declares Gammell, his close friend and filmmaking partner. “Her father, Danny, was not a man with great wealth, and she lived a normal life with him. On the other hand, her life with her mother was full of things that couldn’t be measured by common sense.” “That’s probably why she can stay in any place without getting upset now.”

Lisa Marie’s home was in Calabasas, California. It’s a town that’s now known around the world thanks to the Kardashians. Hidden Hills, the gated community where Lisa Marie lived, includes Madonna, Will Smith, Drake, Miley Cyrus, etc. of famous people have their homes here. “When we lived there, I think it was just us and Melissa Ethridge, and there were a lot of horses,” Riley recalls. “I’m a big senior at Calabasas Girl.” The Kardashian sisters also lived here, long before the reality TV show began. “I think my grandmother dated the Kardashian sisters’ dad, but you should check the facts,” Riley says.

When I looked into it, I found out that she was right. After Priscilla Presley divorced Elvis in 1973, she briefly dated Robert Kardashian. However, Priscilla insisted that she would not remarry while Elvis was alive, so the two went their separate ways.

In 2014, Kim Kardashian met her then-partner Kanye West, they are purchasing the estate where Riley spent her childhood. Her original house was demolished and a larger one was built. Kanye was supposed to live in this house with her family Design Interior Designer Axel Vervoordt was commissioned. This is now Kim’s home.

Dakota, Zoe, Kristen – Riley’s True Face Told by Her Best Friends

When Riley was a teenager, her family moved around a lot, making it difficult for her to maintain a stable school life. “I was always at a loss,” she says of those days. “My father was very concerned about my education. My mother was like, “You’re an artist, so you should aim for that career.” Although Riley didn’t graduate from high school, she still hopes to earn a high school diploma someday. At the time, she educated herself using whatever means were available to her, including books, museums, and movies. “She likes math,” she said, adding: “She likes math.” “And I know more about grammar than most people think, given the circumstances.”

Riley began modeling at the age of 14. She then became a leading model on the catwalks for several seasons, she appeared in the Dior advertising campaign, and she also appeared in the Miss Her Dior ad campaign, along with her mother and grandmother. She was featured on the cover of Vogue. All the while, she still had the same group of close friends around her. Some of my closest friends were Dakota Johnson, Zoe Kravitz were there. All three described Riley as graceful, humble, and fearless. Just to be sure, there was no sign that the three of them were having a meeting via group message before I interviewed them. They all agreed that they were amazed at the strength Riley had shown her over the past three years. “I would do anything to take away her pain,” Dakota said. Johnson was speaking. And Riley says her quiet demeanor, on and off screen, makes her want to lean in and look at her. She is sensitive, but all three agree that this should not be mistaken for weakness.

Zoe and Riley’s mothers were friends, and they were even breastfed next to each other when they were babies. There must also be a VHS tape of the two of them running around at a third birthday party somewhere. However, the two became lifelong friends after a chance reunion at a New Year’s party when they were both 16 years old. “What I’ve always admired about Riley is her unchanging demeanor,” Zoe says. “No matter the situation or the people she’s surrounded by, her personality remains the same. She’s never thought about Riley, ‘Isn’t that weird?'” When I say that, she laughs. “But she’s got some crazy demons inside her. So… after a few shots of tequila, it’s lively!”

When I openly relayed all of this to Riley, she burst out laughing. “I don’t think it’s as wild now as it used to be,” she says. “I don’t drink much anymore, but from my late teens to my mid-20s, I loved adventure. Now I’m like my grandma.”

Dakota met Riley at the age of 16 in the parking lot of an In-N-Out Burger store. “It was like finding my soulmate,” Dakota told me. Dakota’s own parents, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, also appeared on the cover of People magazine when she was in the womb. The cover copy at that time was “They’re going to become mom and dad!” “When I met her, I felt a connection with her about her indescribable experience of growing up in a famous family,” Dakota recalls. “We had a bond and understanding of each other that was different from other people. We would smoke cigarettes together with each of our mothers. The mothers also communicated with each other on the phone and said, ‘Maybe our I think my daughter will be staying with you for four more days.If she wants a ride to pick her up, let me know.”He said things like, “I’m going to go to Riley’s house and not come back for a week.” I don’t know if it was normal, but we were running around the streets of LA, sharing clothes, smelling like nag champa (a kind of incense). I also spent a lot of time going to music festivals and going on dates with musicians.” So, what did you think of seeing her old friend in “Daisy Jones”? “Everything makes sense.”

The Past of Forming a Joke Band with Dakota Johnson

Since the Emmy-nominated drama was released in 2023, Riley has remained frustratingly modest about her singing voice. Since he was a child, he would sometimes perform amateurish songs, but he insists that there was nothing more to it than that. However, during the interview, it was discovered that Dakota remembered those days better. “When we were 19, we started a joke band called Forky Pawns,” Dakota reveals. “Riley and I both have blonde hair, and we broke up with our girlfriends and went to New York. The three of us, including my brother Alexander, sang three-part harmonies to songs by Hank Williams and John Prine. I was singing it and filming it with the [Apple app] Photo Booth. We did thousands of takes.

When I told Riley the whole story, she seemed moved by the fact that she had learned how eccentric she had been as a teenager. “Wow, I was surprised that Dakota reminded me of who I used to be,” she says. “I was lying to the world! I was in a band!”

I asked Riley whether he would choose The Six or Forky Pawn if he were to lead a band on tour. “Can you please stop asking me those questions?” she replied, laughing. “I’m having a hard time, but I think I’ll choose Forky Pawn.”

Riley got a chance to make his debut as an actor in the movie “Runaways” (2010). This is a biopic about the rise and fall of the Runaways, a real-life girl band from the 1970s, starring Kristen Stewart as one of the members, Joan Jett. “Since we only spent so much time together, I didn’t make much of an impression on set. However, I felt that she had a sincerity that I couldn’t help but notice,” says Kristen. Talk about your impressions at this time. “She’s Elvis’s granddaughter, so of course we were curious, you know? At that time, she was really, really — and I say this with love for her — her I was so shy that it hurt my heart.”

In his early twenties, Riley had a small but powerful role in the film Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh. In order to win the role of a stripper that will leave a lasting impression, she appealed with a video she shot herself. The director chose her for the role and later used her in his films Logan Lucky and the drama The Girlfriend Experience, the latter of which featured Riley Nominated for a Golden Globe Award. “What struck me most about Riley was how fearless she was in her acting,” Soderbergh says. “I’m totally defenseless. No matter what kind of performance plan I have in place – of course I have a plan, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to perform as well as I did – I have no intention of involving anyone in it. In short, I just can’t find anything to kick her ass.” Kristen agrees with this. “She’s the best of all the works she’s done so far. That’s because she doesn’t do so-called ‘acting.’ It means daring to put yourself in a place where you can expose yourself.I don’t mean to diminish the value of each work, but there are really actors like that who never give a boring performance no matter what work they appear in.”

Meeting My Partner Ben Smith-Petersen

Riley met Australian stuntman and actor Ben Smith-Petersen in 2013 while filming Mad Max: Fury Road. The pair then drove to Byron Bay on Australia’s eastern tip. “I remember that moment so vividly. I had this feeling that we were going to have a child,” Riley recalls. “Looking back on it now, it’s very strange. I didn’t know at the time how I was going to get there, but it happened.”

The two got married in 2015. Both Riley and Kristen, who attended the wedding, still have fond memories of going to Madonna Inn, an oasis of kitsch in central California, for their last-minute bachelorette party. Remaining. “We’re really good at hanging out in hotel rooms,” Kristen confesses. “But I’ve never been kicked out of a hotel. You know what that means. Spice Girls and… We played songs by the Backstreet Boys and TLC,” Riley says. “We were in a pink, glittery room, wearing headbands with penis decorations on them,” Kristen said. “We ate at a small, kitschy restaurant and we made too much noise.” Looking back on the night. “The next morning, we were exhausted and hungover, and the paparazzi took a really disappointing photo of us, and it’s been on the internet forever. For me, it’s the happiest memory.” (Reilly) (If you search the internet for the name and the phrase “bachelorette party,” you’re bound to find pictures of the occasion that look like posters for a bank robbery movie.)

And now that we’re in Switzerland, the sun is just setting, and Riley is wearing layers of sweaters. Because of the time difference, time here moves faster than in Los Angeles, so by the time she began the interview in the hotel lobby, the messages wishing her a happy birthday were being sent to her doctor’s office and dentist’s office. All I received was an automated email from my doctor. But even as she sat outside on the grass and started talking, her phone kept ringing with notifications of incoming messages from her friends. Riley grinned and joked, “Oh, so many messages. I’m special.”

After finishing the day’s interview, we returned to the hotel lobby and said our farewells. As Riley makes her way to her husband and her daughter, a pianist begins to play Elvis’s hit song, “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” in a serious manner. But it’s already late. Riley had already left the lobby.

It was revealed at Lisa Marie’s funeral at Graceland in January that Riley and her husband had a daughter together. Although Riley had written a eulogy for her mother, she was too emotional to read it at her funeral, so her husband had to read it for her. There were sentences like the following: “I wish I could love my daughter the way my mom loved me. I wish I could have strength, heart, empathy, courage, a sense of humor, demeanor, temperament, wildness, tenacity.” Thank you for giving me such love. I have your mother’s heart, and I am the person I am.”

On a hot June afternoon, Riley greeted me with a hug outside her temporary home in Calabasas. At the end of the road, she and her husband Ben rent a house from the 1970s.

Determination to continue living near my half-sisters in place of my mother

“Please don’t judge me because this interior is far from my aesthetic,” she says. “After my mother passed away, I started thinking that I needed to be closer to her sisters. There were only three possible houses to rent in this area, so I chose this one. There were no other options. There wasn’t.”

Riley’s family plans to move to a more secluded location tomorrow. Even now, when I visit, there is a paparazzi parked at the end of the road and staked out. Her husband Ben is busy packing in the garage. After the move, the family will continue to live near the home of 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood, Riley’s half-sisters. This is an absolutely non-negotiable condition. Director Baz Luhrmann also said that he remembers watching Lisa Marie’s funeral, “supporting the devastated bodies of her twin sisters as mourners filed through the garden.”

I asked Riley if her new home was her dream home. “No, but I like the suburban environment,” she says. “This is my dream. This is a ‘normal life.” I’m happy here.” Riley invited me into the house. Then I heard the sound of a baby crying, mixed in with the barking of the family’s dogs, Zushi and Grubs. “Hi, baby,” she said, before introducing me. “This child is Tupelo.”

Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen was born via surrogate in August 2022. Riley praises her surrogacy as “a really cool, dedicated, incredible thing that women do for other people.” “I could have gotten pregnant myself, but considering the physical symptoms I was experiencing from my autoimmune disease, it seemed like the best option.” Her daughter’s name, Tupelo, is, of course, the name of the town in Mississippi where her grandfather, Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll, was born. “It’s funny, but we chose this name before [Lerman’s] Elvis movie came out,” Riley says. “I thought it would be nice if the words and names associated with my family weren’t so well-known. It wouldn’t be like Memphis or something like that.” When I say that, she laughs out loud at how naive my reading is. “But then ‘Elvis’ came out, and Tupelo was mentioned a lot in the movie. I was like, ‘Oh, stop it.’ But it’s okay.”

Riley’s middle name, “Storm”, is a tribute to Riley’s younger brother, Benjamin Storm Keogh, who passed away at the age of 27.

“I want to be the best mother to my daughter that I can be.”

Riley reaches into the playpen and picks up her 10-month-old daughter. The father of this child is obvious just by looking at his face. “Her daughter literally looks like a miniature version of her husband,” Riley says. Then, in a soft tone, he told me a secret. “She shows some resemblance to me.” With that, she spun Tupelo around and showed me the back of her head. “It’s the curly hair here.” Riley smiled and gently smoothed out the blonde curls at the nape of the baby’s neck. I too looked at Riley in Tupelo’s eyes and she smiled.

Riley tried to give her to the babysitter, but Tupelo missed her mom, so we decided to take her and head to the backyard. A wooden bench is placed in the garden overlooking the artificial lake. Tupelo purrs on her mother’s lap and plays with my sunglasses. “This is what I wanted to do right in my life,” Riley says with emphasis. “I don’t think it’s possible to be a perfect parent, but I want to be the best mother to her daughter that I can.” After I said that, there was a long, long silence. “It’s very important to me.” I sensed from this statement that it was similar to a passage in the eulogy she wrote at her mother’s funeral. “I am convinced that I have chosen the best mother in the world, and have believed so for as long as I can remember.”

Later, as Tupelo took a nap and the sun was setting, Riley was sitting in a lounge chair wearing a white tank top, yellow bikini bottoms, and a straw hat. He has sunglasses on the tip of his nose and is eating a red apple. He underwent 15 days of treatment in Switzerland and his condition improved. This was the first time she’d tried something that actually worked.

The details of the reconciliation between Riley and her grandmother Priscilla since they last met in Switzerland have come to light. Riley reportedly paid Priscilla $1 million and covered $400,000 in legal costs in exchange for being the sole trustee of the assets left behind by his mother, Lisa Marie.

Riley’s attorney has testified that she would not have settled the case if she was not satisfied. “Yes,” she whispers. It seems she was prepared for questions about this to come. Then she took a deep breath, and then she began to speak. “When my mother passed away, every aspect of our family’s life was thrown into turmoil. It felt like the carpet was torn up and the floor melted under our feet. Everyone was in a bit of a panic. So we didn’t know how to move forward and it took us a while to figure out the details. It was that complicated. We’re a family, but our family also runs a pretty big business. So I think there was something that needed to be made clear.”

──So, did that make it clear?

When I asked her that question, she smiled and said, “It’s clear.”

──Have you settled everything about your grandmother?

“The whole thing about my grandmother should fall into place,” Riley replied. “There’s never been a time where it wasn’t.” With that, she fell silent and tried to gather her thoughts. “I was wondering if there was a way to answer this without going on and on for 20 minutes,” she said, and there was another long pause. “There was some turmoil, but everything is now looking to go back to normal. My grandmother was a beautiful woman who played a huge role in creating my grandfather’s legacy and Graceland. It’s very important to me. My grandfather was my grandmother’s beloved person. It makes me sad when I see reports denying that. In the end, what my grandmother wants is Graceland and the Presley family and it’s about loving and preserving that legacy. She’s dedicated her whole life to it. So, it’s a huge responsibility to inherit from her grandmother. But before this happened, this element came into our relationship. She never came. She was always ‘Grandma’ to me.”

Thoughts On My Grandmother Priscilla and My Late Mother

There are conflicting reports as to whether Priscilla will be buried at Graceland when the time comes. “I don’t see any reason why her grandmother wouldn’t be buried at Graceland,” Riley counters. “I have no idea what all the fuss is about that is being reported on the news. Yes, of course, if my grandmother wants it. It was my grandmother’s idea in the first place,” he said, taking a breath and swallowing. “My memories of Graceland are bright and beautiful. Today, many of my family members are buried here. So for me, it is also a place that I feel deeply saddened by.”
