Menthol Toothpaste Color Is Back And We’re Having Fun With It

Refreshing menthol is making a comeback, and after powder pink and butter, this is another pastel shade you should include in your spring wardrobe.

Pistachio has already had its moment in the spotlight. Before it was tomato red (Who can remember tomato girl summer?). Then there was the long reign of butterscotch, but even we started to lose track. What other food-inspired color trend could possibly follow? This time it’s not really about food, but definitely about refreshment. Juicy minty, reminiscent of a strip of toothpaste, is starting to trend. We can safely call it

Colgate styling. “I feel like a mermaid,” Sarah Pidgeon, the actress from Love Story, confided to Vogue  when she appeared during Oscar weekend in an icy minty sequined slip dress from the métiers d’art collection by Matthieu Blazy. “The color is… like toothpaste! But very chic toothpaste,” laughed Dua Lipa, as she brought out a floral teal dress by Roberto Cavalli with matching mint shoes.

Menthol greens and icy blues have been making waves for a while now. In the spring-summer 2025 shows, mint replaced powder pink as the new pastel shade that’s most in. Add to that an emphasis on soft, sheer fabrics and layering. For example, the fashion house

Fendi showed fluffy organza dresses, and Chanel presented delicate tweed suits in mint with subtle glitter details or translucent icy mint coats at the Grand Palais. Johanna Parv, an Estonian fashion designer based in London, also dressed her sporty silhouettes in juicy light green shades, which is a clever balancing act between function and aesthetic pleasure.

In the collections for this fall-winter 2025/2026 season , pastel mint tones usually disrupted the rather muted palette, giving the usually heavier winter models a slightly lighter look. This was seen, for example, at Stella McCartney, where mint was combined with structured silhouettes and combined with the traditional palette of brown, gray or black.

And then for 2026, menthol was joined by jade, moss and other minimalist “botanical” tones, creating a broader organic green color trend. The aforementioned cool shades of blue also made their presence felt:  Simone Rocha’s spring collection featured chiffon dresses in icy blue tones with floral motifs and pearl details, while Dior used the color in structured dresses with balloon skirts and presented it in the form of a classic women’s style. These lighter tones provided designers with the ideal space to explore different forms of femininity.

The idea of fresh toothpaste was inspired by Chanel. Fresh minty pumps that you can bite into, handbags in sea foam tones, various minty fresh variations that appeared in crocheted skirts, braided belts, boucle dresses and tweed jackets. Among the palette oscillating between red, pink, gold and gray shades, menthol suddenly seemed like a breath of incredibly fresh wind. And the aforementioned minty pumps were also part of the general mania that broke out around the very first batch of the collection signed by Matthieu Blazy, which appeared in Chanel boutiques and after which the ground quickly sank. “I am so happy that this fresh palette has returned thanks to Blazy,” says journalist Alice Betts. “The small Chanel tote bag is currently at the top of my wish list. It feels like the perfect thing to add an instant pop of color, freshness, and cheer to my outfit.

“Independent designers are also embracing the trend. “Jazz Mignone, our creative director, is obsessed with colour,” laughs Hattie Tennant, founder of London-based lingerie and clothing brand Fruity Booty. “We always joke that she has these little love affairs with different shades. She fell in love with mint exactly a year ago, but due to the standard deadlines, it took a while for the collection to come out with these colour elements, but it finally hit the mark right at the moment when the trend was starting to show.”

The more minty shades began to appear in the Fruity Booty collections in fall 2025. “The palette gradually became more muted, and the mint brightened it up nicely,” Tennant describes. For example, the line features a greenish seafoam bra playfully paired with neutral, sheer tops. Light blue lingerie is layered with sheer shorts and lace tops. “There’s something indescribably fresh, fruity about it… You just have to have a little bit of a minty bra strap sticking out from under your gray knit tank top.” According to Tennant, it’s also a rare case of a color that suits everyone and is incredibly feminine without being too sweet. But menthol can also be a big styling challenge, as it can look very sterile or, conversely, inappropriately infantile. “I usually work with poplin, and light tones of blue and green can really work for me,” laughs Los Angeles designer Brooke Callahan, known and sought after for her colorful models of trousers and skirts in bold colors such as turquoise, tomato red or orange. “You risk getting into hospital uniform territory very quickly.” Callahan recently presented a limited capsule collection in collaboration with London brand Hai, in which she combined her signature cuts with work with silk, which is also typical for Hai. One of the shades in the collection is ice blue.”

Silk is a truly luxurious material and it has given me the opportunity to explore new techniques. The right shade of blue can be so alluring – you want to touch it, swim in it. The icy blue colors will refresh your outfit without you having to think about it.”

The soft blue was the very first shade the designers agreed on for the collaboration.“ Haze blue felt like a natural middle ground,” adds Hai founder and designer Tessa Vermeulen. “It balances out Brooke’s more colorful pieces with our softer, more muted silks. It feels fresh but still very soft, which felt right for this collaboration.””I love mint because it suits almost every skin tone. Plus, it’s fun, it’s refreshing without overwhelming the rest,” explains designer Lucila Safdie, who started using the color in her line of headbands, which has become a favorite among not only London’s it girls. Now she’s prepared a collection that looks like it came straight out of a Sofia Coppola movie moodboard: micro shorts , jumpsuits, and cropped polo shirts with balloon sleeves. The occasional flash of mint adds a bit of perspective and humor to the already nostalgic collection. For other designers, mint represents a sense of fearlessness. Moldovan designer Fidan Novruzova took inspiration from Polish art deco icon Tamara de Lempicka, her self-portraits and bold color palettes for her Fall 2026 collection . She explored what modern femininity looks like when combined with structured shirts and hybrid sportswear. “Her work was a starting point for me this season, and I decided to go all out with the colors,” Novruzova explains. The collection includes a bubblegum mint jacket with long lapels paired with a beige peplum skirt and signature chunky boots, or a polo dress with an extended, almost shawl-like, mint collar and a mint-lined bolero.

Alongside accents of red, cyan and caramel brown, Novruzova’s interpretation of mint is a symbol of the confident woman. In the Paloma Wool fall collection, defined by disciplined silhouettes, menthol appeared as a playful and ironic contrast.Let’s finally say goodbye to the clean girl aesthetic for a while , because it seems that romance, playfulness and fairy-taleness are returning to fashion.

Colgate styling, whether it’s a menthol detail or some bigger fresh element, is a good way to get a story back into our outfits. Maybe this color can scare you at first, but as we saw on the catwalks, it is surprisingly versatile, whether in combination with neutral colors or with brighter, lighter shades. So try this influx of freshness yourself, not only when brushing your teeth in the morning, but also when getting dressed, when you are deciding how to give your spring styling the right, fresh vibe.
