Eleven times nominated for the 2024 Césars, from which it emerged with no less than six statuettes, five times for the Oscars, Anatomy of a Fall was rewarded at the BAFTAs , at the Golden Globes, sees its director tour the world to present this demanding film but which continues to create buzz since its release at the end of last summer. We explain why in five good reasons.

Anatomy of a fall : unstoppable filmic know-how

No one will go see this film: a couple fighting, a suicide, a dog vomiting… ” joked Justine Triet during her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes . On paper, Anatomy of a Fall could indeed prove a little too austere to become a blockbuster. An unlikeable heroine, accused of the murder of her husband, a chalet lost in the snowy mountains, a visually impaired child, a gray court, two and a half hours long and a cast depleted of stars. But on the big screen, the whole thing becomes magnetic, played and filmed with precision, tightened by an implacable narration whose verdict is crystal clear – unlike the innocence of its protagonist, which divides the spectators.

If we add an excellent sense of editing, provided by Laurent Sénéchal , among others familiar with the films of Triet and Harari , and admirable shots, we obtain a trial film that the public, informed or not, likes. And this from dark rooms to prestigious award ceremonies. “ The Queen among kings ,” comments producer Marie-Ange Luciani , posting a photo of the Oscar nominations. The producer of Anatomy of a Fall still seems to be living a waking dream, and shares with emotion Justine Triet ‘s successful festival tour.

From Sandra Hüller to Swann Arlaud: a casting as astonishing as it is effective

As we said above, no celebrities present on this poster. But only great actors and actresses, starting with the one who did very well with the winning double Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest – one of the masterpieces of the year, even of the decade: the German Sandra Hüller . The general public, who had not necessarily seen Toni Erdmann , where she already shone with her talent in 2016, adores her in Anatomy of a Fall. Thanks to the character of Sandra, a writer who is suspected of having killed her husband, she captivates with her opaque performance, this almost uneasy presence and this physicality not prone to histrionics.
