Now, the clumsy but beloved Brit returns to our screens just in time for Valentine’s Day, in the long-awaited fourth installment of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy .
As always, Renée Zellweger plays the eternally single main character, who, after the death of her Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth), unlucky in love again. Becoming a single mother of two in London, Bridget’s love life is practically non-existent. (As Daniel, played by Hugh Grant, tells her, “You’re actually a nun. A very, very naughty nun.”)
Although she tries to navigate Tinder, Bridget ends up romancing two very different and completely unexpected suitors. There’s the school’s teacher, Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), which could complicate things in the classroom, and 20-year-old “tree god” Roxster, played by Internet guy Leo Woodall (The White Lotus, One Day). Encouraged by her friends, Bridget tries to “sleep with someone” while dealing with new relationships, grief and the dangers of modern romanticism.
The film also brings back Hugh Grant as Bridget’s former boss and lover, though it’s unlikely we’ll see their more iconic chat room exchanges like the one about the “sick” miniskirt again. Australian actress Isla Fisher also appears in the film.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will not have a theatrical release, but will be immediately available on the Peacock streaming platform on February 14, 2025. A perfect Valentine’s Day gift, if we may say so. Mark the date in your diary, pour yourself a glass of wine and watch the trailer below.
