Presenter Lola Weippert she feels constantly pressured to justify herself when she wants to abstain from alcohol. “Why is it sometimes more socially acceptable to get completely wasted than to simply consciously choose not to drink?” the 30-year-old wrote on Instagram.
If you didn’t want to drink alcohol, you would hear comments and questions like “Oh come on, just one glass”, “Don’t be so boring” or “Are you pregnant?”, described Weippert, who was born in Rottweil, Baden-Württemberg.

Although there are “a thousand reasons” to abstain from alcohol, those affected often have “this feeling that they have to prove they can be fun, easygoing, or socially acceptable without it,” she criticized. It has become normalized that alcohol is part of almost everything. “And at the same time, you get strange looks if you simply order water.”
The presenter concluded: “No one should have to justify what they put into their body, or don’t put into it. A ‘no thank you’ should be perfectly sufficient.”
Weippert hosted the RTL reality show “Temptation Island” for several years. Since April, she has been co-hosting the weekly podcast “Schön Laut” with singer Vanessa Mai.
