A flowing black leather dress from the cruise collection designed by Matthieu Blazy for Chanel, high jewelry pieces inspired by the camellia—on the steps of the Grand Théâtre Lumière, where she appeared alongside her son this Friday in Cannes, Marion Cotillard delivered a masterclass in understated style. An ambassador for the house since 2020, the French actress, who was presenting Guillaume Canet’s film that evening, played with contrasts.
A lesson in elegance

Her simple chignon, light makeup, floral earrings from the Coromandel high jewelry collection (the famous lacquered screens that Gabrielle Chanel collected in her apartment at 31 rue Cambon), and a Camelia Bloom ring, paired with this flowing, bell-shaped dress, would certainly have delighted Coco—for whom the camellia was not simply a floral motif but a symbol of the House. Fascinated by its perfect geometry and graphic elegance, the designer adopted it as early as the 1920s. Having become a signature in high jewelry, on par with the lion, the ribbon, or the comet, the House uses it sometimes figuratively, sometimes almost abstractly, but always with poetry. Precisely the kind that Marion Cotillard embodies.
