Novak Djokovic Says ‘I Am Not Confident’ About Competing In The Quarter-Finals After ‘Poor Training’ For Roland Garros

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, ranked number one in the world, revealed that he is not confident of his ability to compete in the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros tournament, after he suffered a knee injury during his match against Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo on Monday, which he decided after 5 sets in four and a half hours.

Djokovic said: “In the third game of the second set, I slipped and suffered an injury to my knee. I do not know what will happen tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, and I do not know whether I will be able to enter the court and play the next match or not.”

Novak will play against Norwegian Casper Ruud after the latter defeated American Fritz.

Novak added: “I hope so (participation). Let’s see what happens. We will conduct the necessary tests tomorrow. We conducted some of them with the doctor a while ago. There is positive news, but there is also some concern.”

Djokovic, the defending champion, overcame the trap of the Argentine Cerondolo in a marathon match that lasted 4 hours and 37 minutes to emerge victorious in three sets, 6-1, 7-5, 6-3, against two sets for the world number 27, with scores of 5-7, 3-6.

Thanks to this victory, the Serbian became the player who has reached the most quarter-finals in Grand Slam tournaments (58), equaling Swiss Roger Federer’s record in the professional era. He also surpassed him in the number of victories in major tournaments after reaching 370 victories.
