Mourning for Voletta Wallace: The mother of the world-famous rapper Notorious BIG passed away. His legacy kept her alive after his death in 1997.
Voletta Wallace (1953-2025), the mother of hip-hop superstar Notorious BIG (1972-1997), who was murdered in 1997, is dead. The Monroe County coroner’s office confirmed this to the US magazine “People” among others . She died of natural causes in a hospice on February 21. Wallace was 72 years old.
Voletta Wallace hoped for justice throughout her life
After Notorious BIG’s death in 1997, she kept his legacy alive and managed his estate, which, according to “People,” was last reported to be worth $160 million. For example, Wallace acted as producer of the 2009 biopic “Notorious BIG” about the life of her famous son. In the film, she was played by Angela Bassett , 66.
Until the very end, Voletta Wallace hoped that the murder of Notorious BIG would be solved. “As long as I live, there is hope,” she revealed to Entertainment Weekly in 2021. “I will never give up. And I hope that when I’m no longer in this world, my friends and family will carry on the fight. There is always hope.”
