Scarlett Johansson has once again fallen victim to an AI fake. The Hollywood star paints a bleak picture of the future. Although it is very important to her – for certain reasons in the USA and many other countries – to make a statement against right-wing ideology, the affected Marvel actress Johansson also sharply criticizes the deepfake videos.
Scarlett told “George V Magazine”: “I am a Jewish woman who has zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech of any kind. But I am equally firmly convinced that the potential for hate speech multiplied by AI is a far greater threat […]. We must denounce the misuse of AI, regardless of the message.” Otherwise, according to Johansson, there is a risk that the “overview of reality will increasingly be lost.”
Scarlett Johansson has been a victim several times
The star only found out about the clip in which she apparently calls out Kanye West in the media from family members and friends. But the actress had already been the victim of AI fakes several times before: In 2023, a company had advertised with an artificial likeness of her. Just a year later, an AI voice very similar to hers was released. In this regard, her statement says: “I have unfortunately become a very public victim of AI, but the truth is that the threat of AI affects each and every one of us.”
Johansson concludes her statement with an urgent appeal to the US government to finally pass appropriate laws that limit the unauthorized use of AI. In her opinion, this is “a bipartisan issue that has enormous implications for the immediate future of all humanity.”
