Chanel Cruise Fashion Show: An Ode to the Californian Way of Life
Every year, from May to June, fashion houses compete in creativity for their Cruise collections. Originally intended, as their name suggests, to dress wealthy cruise passengers who travel regularly, they are now adapted for everyday life. After setting down its bags last year on the beach of the Faena Hotel in Miami Beach, Chanel has this time opted for the west coast of the United States and the Bay Area of Los Angeles. The fine sand and rolling waves beloved by surfers the world over have given way to another, equally sporty setting: that of a huge basketball court. This the match is tight between the two teams facing off: Los Angeles and Paris. This sportswear dimension is superimposed on an obvious homage to cinema in this capital of the 7th art.
In reality, this fictional duel is intended more as a declaration of love to these two metropolises, as the ties between the house on rue Cambon and Hollywood have always been strong. You only have to watch films from all eras to realize this close relationship between cinemas and Chanel. From Romy Schneider to Kristen Stewart, including Jeanne Moreau and Anna Karina, the tweed suits and hats created by Coco Chanel are stunning on screen. It is therefore only logical that the fashion house chose Paramount Studios as the setting for its latest Cruise show. Just a few kilometers from the Walk of Fame and downtown Los Angeles lies one of the oldest film studios in the world. Those of Paramount Pictures have seen the biggest productions, from the Star Trek saga , Mission Impossible 3 and Forrest Gump . This time, it was not the film crew that took over the premises but rather the models who paraded one after the other on this life-size catwalk . An ideal setting for bringing out cinematic references, with pastel shades and outfits entirely embroidered with gold sequins, symbols of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Margot Robbie plays the retro chic look card by Chanel
Among the VIPs who showed up, actress Margot Robbie managed to stand out from the crowd. After wearing a black Chanel dress from the house’s archives to shine on the Met Gala 2023 red carpet, the actress who plays the badass Harley Quinn opted for an ensemble with accents borrowing as much from the eighties as from the Y2K trend. A truly inspiring look consisting of a plain black bra topped with an ultra-crafted gold bolero and bell-bottom jeans. To accessorize the whole thing, the actress, who will soon be playing Barbie in the eponymous film, opted for a few discreet jewels and a black leather Coco Handle handbag . Take note for the coming summer.
