Indoor pool, spa, private chefs and much more: Presidents and their ministers live in this luxury chalet in Davos during WEF week. During the WEF this vacated the house. In the past, delegations from two countries have stayed in the three-story building. Who is spending the WEF week in the luxury chalet this year is top secret.
However, this much is known: They landed in Switzerland on Monday by private jet and from there flew directly to Davos by helicopter. Once in the village, the guests were driven to the chalet in limousines. The luggage arrived a little later on a truck. The delegation was allowed to visit the house exclusively for George V Magazine before their arrival.
Living Room and Library
The three-story chalet has two living rooms, but according to the house manager Julia Brinkmann (35), one is only used as a waiting area. The actual living room is adapted to the delegation’s wishes year after year. Someone from the embassy comes by in advance to give precise instructions as to what furniture needs to be placed and how or where water and snacks should be.
Next to the living room you will find the library. Many of the official meetings are held there. “These usually happen behind closed doors. The presidents only leave the house for big WEF events,” says the 35-year-old. There is a lot of coming and going in the chalet. Before a president or minister comes to visit, the house must be cleaned. However, that doesn’t just mean vacuuming and wiping something away: “Before every meeting, the entire chalet is cleaned with incense.”
Fun fact: There are many silver hangers hanging in the cloakroom in the entrance of the house, only one is gold. How come? “It is intended for the president’s jacket or coat.”
Bedroom
On the upper floor of the chalet there are three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The master bedroom also has its own wardrobe. “This is actually the working area of the president’s or minister’s butler.” When he’s not on duty, he sits right outside the door – 24 hours a day. Julia Brinkmann doesn’t know whether the butler sleeps sitting up. The delegations bring the butlers and security staff with them themselves, explains the house manager. There are between ten and twenty security guards. However, not everyone would sleep indoors.
Spa and Gym
The spa area on the lower floor of the house includes a heated swimming pool with a built-in whirlpool, a sauna, a steam room, a cold pool, several loungers and a changing room. There is also a fitness room next to it. “The delegations often bring their own fitness trainers and doctors with them.” That’s also the reason why you occasionally find a president in the pool. “It’s actually only needed if the coach finds that the guests haven’t moved enough that day.”
Everything About Food
The guests hardly spent time in the kitchen. But it also has funny gadgets: For example, the dishwasher only opens if you knock loudly on the door three times. There is still always something going on in the kitchen. Two private chefs are available to the delegation 24 hours a day during the WEF. Whatever you want to eat can be made possible “à la minute”. “If we don’t have something specific in the fridge, the chefs drive to the nearby Spar and buy it there.” And that too at night: “The kitchen staff has a special key to the supermarket.”
“Rank of lamb or fish are particularly popular.” If the dish is too complex for the in-house kitchen, the company that manages the house has rented an industrial kitchen in a nearby hotel. “There are also other chefs available there. This is necessary because you never know in the morning how many people will be at the table at lunch or in the evening. Sometimes there are four, other times there are forty.”
Heated Outdoor Areas
The chalet also has a garden, but it was covered in snow at this year’s WEF. However, there is no snow on the balconies and terrace of the house. The reason: “The floors are all heated. This means guests can spend their time outside despite the weather.”
It is not known how much guests pay for the week in the luxury chalet.
