The royal couple were spotted in casual attire, looking artfully dishevelled, at their eldest son’s sporting event. While royal duties may take the Prince and Princess of Wales across the globe, it was a parental one which took them to a rainy-day sports match last week. In a surreptitious snap posted to social media, the royal couple were spotted arriving at Prince George’s football match in a far more casual get-up than their usual looks.
Last week, sheltering from the rain, the pair looked artfully dishevelled yet the very picture of proud, doting parents as they arrived to support their eldest son. The Prince of Wales donned dark jeans, a navy jacket and matching baseball cap whilst Kate was seen in a smart Barbour khaki raincoat and abandoned her signature skinny jeans for a pair of sleek dark denim flares, under which could just be seen some white On X Roger Federer trainers peeking out underneath. A fitting nod, of course, to her long-time friend with whom she even engaged in a playful tennis match for this summer to highlight the work of ball boys and girls at Wimbledon. It is a friendship strengthened by the Princess’s love of the sport and her role as the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Naturally, it was for another sport entirely that the couple were in attendance. Prince George is famously a huge football fan who plays for a local team during term tine. Prince William has previously commented that he hopes his son, an avowed Aston Villa fan, will one day become their ‘top goal scorer.’ Father and son have been spotted at Villa matches in the past, as well as the England v Italy Euro final at Wembley in 2021, where the young prince was seen to be visibly moved when England lost on penalties.
Whilst the second in line to the throne may have to swap his football dreams for a life of royal duties, for now, his devoted parents are clearly keen to encourage Prince George’s passion for the beautiful game.
