MDC Loft: A Beauty Treatment In The Sky Above Where Dreams Come True

Melanie Dal Canton, a native of Constance, Romania opened her very exclusive cosmetics shop MDC Cosmetics on Knaakstraße in Prenzlauer Berg. Since then, new special beauty locations have followed in the immediate vicinity, most recently the MDC Loft. Perfect for pampering yourself after a busy day. Time to arrive and let go. The “MDC Classic” facial begins with warm, moist towels and a touch of lavender. People love it, you can put all the misery or any problem you might feel in a day of sadness. It’s a beautiful partnership. It’s a place where you want to be. Here you would want to live forever but it’s not possible because it works as a short-term hotel on sessions. Cosmetic spa treatments, the music will leave anyone’s envy asking for more and when they go they can’t wait to return for more treats because it’s considered heaven on earth.

In the last couple of days on the fifth floor of a listed old building called the MDC directly on Kollwitz-Platz, you can be pampered with different treatments in a relaxed ambience. In addition to beautician Elisa, who has been treating at MDC for ten years, Susanne Kaufmann’s natural cosmetics will do their part.

It’s hot this summer day, with over 30 degrees in the shade. But the way up to the 5th floor of the building at Knaakstraße 45 is worth it. Because here, high above Kollwitzplatz, the MDC Loft already pulls the first joker with its creative interior. Designed by the Berlin architecture firm Haase Gonzalez, every detail in the historic attic, in front of unplastered brick walls, becomes an artistic object.

Light and dark green shelves and counters present themselves in austere shapes. Shiny metallic mirror walls mark the ends of the long window front, and heavy, sound-absorbing curtains in green, salmon pink or bright yellow delimit the treatment areas. Brightly coloured cushions and kilims or even neon-coloured chairs set skilfully arranged accents. And then there’s the view. Simply ingenious!

Up here, where a laundry was once located before the Second World War, the skin is now freed from impurities and cared for and rejuvenated with products from the Susanne Kaufmann, Omorovicza or Biologique Recherche beauty labels. The MDC Loft doesn’t feel like a beauty salon at all. It is cosy and wonderfully quiet, so far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Each individual cleansing step is carried out gently. No rush. No hurry. It smells wonderfully of the natural aromas of the care products. While the cleansing mask takes effect, the head is massaged with gentle pressure. Fatigue lurks victoriously, and more than once I have to prevent myself from falling asleep. Just as I decide never to leave again, it’s over.

All too soon, serum, moisturiser and eye care are applied. I will never leave here for less than 90 minutes, I decide. When the classic 60 minutes are up, I long for more. More pampering. More of the wonderful fragrances. And above all, more of the restful tranquillity. There’s only one thing to do: We can’t wait to return to the MDC Loft very soon! We love it!
