Queen Máxima of the Netherlands opted for an unusual look when she stepped out solo to attend the opening of the State of Fashion Biennial 2026 in Arnhem. She opted for a modern take on a bridal look, styling a single-breasted crisp white blazer with wide-leg trousers in the same icy hue.

Underneath, she slipped on a white camisole top and, unusually for a solo daytime outing, the Queen wore an enormous white hat. The unexpected element of her look was how her blazer was adorned with a splodge of green to look like a splash of paint that was decorated with emerald jewels.

Adding to the green accent detailing, the royal popped on a pair of bottle green suede heels, carried a green suede clutch and wore a pair of emerald and diamond earrings.

In the green

It was the second time in 24 hours that Máxima opted for a pop of green. On 12 May, she visited the new Mammal House of the AAP European animal welfare organisation in Almere. The Queen dressed up for the occasion as she went from her first engagement to visit an educational project on cultural heritage in honour of the 800th anniversary of Duivenvoorde Castle in Voorschoten.

The royal recycled a Natan Couture skirt suit from 2013, as identified by Royal Fashion Police on Instagram, featuring a puffed mini skirt and slash neck jacket. She also wore the ‘Gianvito 105’ bisque suede pumps, a royal favourite, and a pillbox hat by Jolana Kotabova. It featured a woven basket-like design.

Recycling her royal wardrobe

The Queen has never been afraid of a rewear. In fact, in April, she stepped out at The Royal Palace for a diplomatic corps dinner wearing a hot pink strapless gown from Natan Couture featuring a ruffled, tiered lace skirt and a ruched waist.

It was accessorised with the Ruby Peacock Tiara, which was commissioned in 1897, and the matching ruby parure. The dress is still going strong, having first been worn by the mother of three in 2007 to Willem-Alexander’s 40th Birthday Party in Apeldoorn.

On this occasion, Máxima skipped a tiara, opting instead for Cartier’s ‘Tutti Frutti’ necklace.
