The Athletics Integrity Unit announced on Tuesday that the former Olympic pole vault champion, Brazilian Thiago Braz, was suspended for 16 months after violating anti-doping rules.

The penalty was imposed after he tested positive last July for a banned substance in sports, which Braz said he had taken through sports supplements.

It was decided to temporarily suspend Braz last July after his positive result in the Stockholm Diamond League match on July 2.

Taking into account the temporary suspension period, the Brazilian will remain suspended until next November 27. The Integrity Unit is studying the appeal after it demanded that Baraz be suspended for four years.

The disciplinary court ruled that Braz did not clearly ignore the danger, but rather relied on the advice of his medical team.
