After portraying famed opera singer Maria Callas in Maria, Angelina Jolie will return to Paris for another film project. Only, instead of depicting a reclusive music legend, she’ll be enthralled in the cutthroat universe of couture fashion.
Recently adding ‘designer’ to her resume with Atelier Jolie, the actress is no stranger to this world, but this is the first time she’s taken her connection to fashion to the big screen.
Set to be directed by Alice Winocour, the film—aptly named Stitches—is set in the European fashion capital. It will be shot in both French and English, just like Winocour’s previous film, Proxima, which starred Eva Green as an astronaut preparing for a year-long stint in space who is coping with the guilt of leaving her child and navigating a male-dominated environment.
“Stitches” also reteams Winocour with French production-distribution powerhouse Pathé Films following her well-received movie “Paris Memories,” which world premiered at Cannes’ Directors Fortnight and earned its star Virginie Efira a Cesar Award (France’s equivalent to the Oscar) for her performance as a survivor of a brutal terrorist attack.
Pathé Films will distribute “Stitches” in France. UTA Independent Film Group structured the financing for the film and is representing global and North American rights. Hanway Films is handling international sales.
The film will shoot in both French and English, in line with Winocour’s previous movie “Proxima.” The latter starred Eva Green as an astronaut preparing for a year-long stint on the International Space Station, coping with the guilt of leaving her young daughter and navigating a male-dominated environment.
For everything we know about Stitches, read on.
What is Stitches about?
The film will be “set in the world of high fashion and unfolds in Paris” and will follow “three women whose lives will collide during Fashion Week.”
The film, titled “Stitches” (“Coutures”), is set in the world of high fashion and unfolds in Paris. Jolie stars in the movie as a filmmaker and is one of three women whose lives will collide during Fashion Week.
Though not much else is known about Stitches, we can personally attest to Paris Fashion Week providing the perfect setting for drama and chaos. Just consider everybody’s favourite fashion film.
Who will star in the film?
As far as reports go, Jolie is currently the only name attached to the film.
Jolie will star as one of the three women whose stories overlap during fashion week, most likely as someone working in the industry. And if you ask us, she would make for a perfect Miranda Priestly-type magazine editor, so here’s hoping we get to see the actress in a similar role.
When will Stitches be released?
As it stands, no official release date has been shared. However, production reportedly began in November 2024, meaning we could see the film as early as 2025, so watch this space.
