Choosing the right shampoo
Use an adequate shampoo for your hair type. Cheap shampoos often fail to wash out completely, leaving behind a film that weighs the hair down and attracts dirt. When you switch to a higher quality shampoo, even sulfate-free versions, you will need about 5-6 washes to remove the old layers of residue from the hair, which will make your hair lighter and more airy.
Preparation: Part the hair properly
Before applying shampoo, soak your hair well with water and divide it into three parts: a central part along the natural parting and two side parts closer to the ears, down the head itself. This vertical division allows you to apply the shampoo evenly to all parts of the scalp, preventing the product from being concentrated only on the front of the head, which is a common mistake. When the hair is wet, the shampoo sometimes does not reach the back of the scalp, which leads to uneven cleaning and quick greasiness.
First shampoo application: Thorough cleansing and massage
Some shampoos require you to rub them between your palms before applying, but most products are not effective enough for such an application and must be applied directly to the roots. Apply the shampoo in three long strokes – one down the center section and two down the side sections, closer to the ears. Then gently massage it with your fingertips, focusing on the root. While applying the shampoo, pay special attention to massaging the scalp. A thorough massage not only helps to clean evenly, but also promotes circulation and blood flow to the head, which can contribute to better hair growth and a healthier scalp.
Second Application: Re-wash for deeper cleaning
After the first rinse, apply twice as much shampoo using the same technique. This time, the shampoo should lather more intensively, because the hair is now free of grease. If even then it doesn’t foam enough, feel free to repeat the process a third time.
Take proper care of your hair after washing
After washing your hair thoroughly, wring it out gently to remove excess water. If you use a leave-on serum or mask, apply them only to the length of the hair and the ends, never near the roots. Leave the mask on for as long as possible – optimally 10-15 minutes, which allows the hair to absorb more nutrients. Finally, comb your hair with a brush specially designed for wet combing.
Retention of nutrients: Leave-In preparations
After washing off the mask, be sure to apply a leave-in conditioner or serum. These products help to keep all the nutrients inside the hair, preventing them from “leaking” through the pores of the hair over time. Apply additional oil to the ends, as serums are not always strong enough to retain hydration on the ends, which are often damaged and more porous.
Final Tip: Keeping the brush clean
Wash your brush regularly (once a week), because a dirty brush can ruin all the effort of washing and immediately transfer oil and impurities back to freshly washed hair. This prolongs the effect of clean and fresh hair that you have carefully cared for.
Follow these simple steps and watch your hair take on a new shine and lightness, as if it had been treated in a hair salon every day.
