Emilia Clarke gave a huge, Game of Thrones-style medieval quilt to her bosses as a gift. It references “House Martin” as “unwritten,” a nod to the eternal wait for The Winds of Winter.
Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been in the news lately as they promote their new show 3 Body Problem, a sci-fi series coming to Netflix in March. While 3 Body Problem is the focus outlets.
For instance, here’s something THR reporter James Hibberd learned during his sit-down with Benioff and Weiss: in their office, they display a huge knitted medieval tapestry meant to honor the creatives and crew behind Game of Thrones, given to them as a gift by Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen. The quilt has lots of inscriptions written on it, many of them bearing a touch of Clarke’s playful humor. For instance, one inscription reads, “more blood, less clothes,” appropriate for a show famed for its depictions of sex and violence.
There’s also a sly, gentle, all-in-good-fun dig at A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, who’s writing the books on which Game of Thrones was based. The quilt references a “House Martin” as “unwritten.”
That is a sad factoid that all Song of Ice and Fire fans have had to deal with, but it’s nice to see that Clarke and her coworkers can wring some humor out of it.
How can we get a partnership? Asked R.R. Martin
