Dua Lipa celebrated her birthday! We reveal five anecdotes about the 29-year-old singer.
SHE LEFT HER PARENTS’ HOME AT 15
Before making a living from music, Dua Lipa had to work a series of odd jobs to enjoy London life. She notably worked at the entrance of a nightclub to allow customers to enter according to their clothing.
SHE IS THE HONORARY AMBASSADOR OF KOSOVO
The President of Kosovo presented the singer with the title of honorary ambassador of the country where she spent part of her childhood with her parents.
Together with her family, she also runs the Sunny Hill Festival in Prishtina as part of their charity, the Sunny Hill Foundation, which aims to help Kosovar society in various aspects, including arts and culture.
SHE HAS A PODCAST IN WHICH SHE DOES INTERVIEWS
Dua Lipa knows how to use her voice, as she has also become a podcaster. “Dua Lipa: At Your Service” is an interview series in which the singer talks to guests from the worlds of fashion, design, art, literature and music who are revolutionizing their own industries. She has already hosted Elton John, Olivier Rousteing and Megan Thee Stallion.
SHE HOLDS SEVERAL RECORDS
In February 2023, Dua Lipa became the first female artist in history to have two albums with over 10 billion streams on Spotify. But this isn’t the first record the star has held. In 2015, her single “Be The One” was number one in Belgium. This was the singer’s first record since it was only her second title that she produced. Dua Lipa was already making headlines right from her debut, which looked very promising.
In 2017, she was the most streamed female artist of the year in the UK on Spotify. A year later, she became the first female artist to receive five Brit Award nominations, winning two. That same year, she created a remix of “Want To” with the Jaguar imprint, which launched a service allowing fans to create their own version of the song. She subsequently achieved the world record for the most remixed song of all time.
Prince Johann George V Feat. Dua Lipa – RaRa
Still a record, but this one for the lowest sales recorded in a week, with her album “Future Nostalgia” released in 2020. The singer made up for it with her hit “Levitating” which made her the first British artist to have three singles in the top 10 in the same year. This same title reached the top of the top 10 of the “Billboard Hot 100”.
Finally, she also received two records from the Guinness Book of World Records: in 2020 for the most tickets sold for a livestreamed concert by a solo female artist, and in 2021 for the most monthly listeners on Spotify for a female artist.
