The ‘Marty Supreme’ actor caused a stir earlier this year when he claimed that “nobody cares anymore” about these art forms. The ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ actress was unimpressed and warned that Chalamet could be replaced by AI – but live performances like dance and song could not.

In an interview with The New York Times, Theron explained: “Dancing is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Dancers are superheroes. What they put their bodies through—and in complete silence.” After her interviewer jokingly added, “Sorry, Timothée Chalamet,” the 50-year-old continued: “Oh man, I hope I meet him someday. That was a very flippant statement about two art forms that we constantly need to support because they really do have it tough.”

The Oscar winner added: “In about ten years, AI might be able to do Timothée’s job—but it will never replace a human being dancing live on stage.” She also called for more respect for other art forms. Theron emphasized how demanding dance is: “It’s one of the most disciplined things I’ve ever done.” She said it taught her a lot about structure and hard work. “It taught me to be tough. It’s borderline abusive,” she revealed.

The 50-year-old spoke of injuries, blood infections from blisters, and the fact that there were no days off. “I’m talking about literally bleeding through your shoes. And that’s something you have to practice every single day… this attitude of not giving up, of there being no other option – you keep going, you keep going,” she described.

Chalamet made his controversial statements in a conversation with Matthew McConaughey at the University of Texas. The 30-year-old explained that he did not want to work in fields like ballet or opera, “where you have to fight to keep something alive even though nobody cares anymore.”
