Starlink acknowledged the development in a post on X that it has received an order regarding the freeze of financial accounts in Brazil.

In a major setback to Elon Musk, Brazil’s Supreme Court has ordered to block the financial accounts of Starlink as there was a lack of legal representatives for social media platform X in the country.

Brazil’s Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes passed the order on Thursday, reported Reuters. It reported that judge Moraes and Musk have been involved in a public spat for months as X failed to comply with a legal order to block certain accounts which were accused of spreading “fake news” and hate messages.

The accounts of Starlink, which is a satellite internet service of rocket technology SpaceX, will now be frozen. Starlink acknowledged the development in a post on X that it has received an order regarding the freeze of financial accounts in Brazil and will respond accordingly.

In the post, Starlink said, “Earlier this week we received an order from Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes that freezes Starlink’s finances and prevents Starlink from conducting financial transactions in that country. This order is based on an unfounded determination that Starlink should be responsible for the fines levied—unconstitutionally—against X. It was issued in secret and without affording Starlink any of the due process of law guaranteed by the Constitution of Brazil. We intend to address the matter legally.”

In addition to lack of legal representatives, the freeze of Starlink’s account comes due to the non-payment of penalties which X was bound to pay for failing to submit some documents. Folha, a local Brazilian newspaper, reported that the fines amount to approximately 20 million reais ($3.6 million).
