To mark the 40th anniversary of the film’s release, the Dirty Dancing musical will hit Broadway in 2027.
What do you give yourself for your 40th birthday? Broadway, perhaps. That’s certainly the choice of the musical Dirty Dancing. The film, released in 1987, will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2027. To mark the occasion, the production will take up residence on Broadway for the very first time, for a series of performances from February 12 to September 5.
The limited-edition performances will feature Annalese Starzec as Frances “Baby” Houseman and Blake Zelesnikar as Johnny Castle. The duo, currently starring in the North American tour of Dirty Dancing , will be based in New York for a few months before resuming their nationwide tour.
To remain as faithful as possible to the film, the production will be directed by Lonny Price , the actor who played Neil Kellerman in the original movie. As People reports , choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie , known for the Broadway musical Fat Ham and Beyoncé ‘s world tour , will be in charge of the dance. He will lead a company of 27 dancers, 21 of whom will be making their Broadway debuts.

Starzec and Zelesnikar will be joined by Olivia Cece as Penny Johnson, Bryan Fenkart as Jake Houseman, Dan Klimko as Neil Kellerman and Lily Kren, who will play Lisa Houseman.
Written by Eleanor Bergstein, who also wrote the screenplay for the original film, Dirty Dancing: The Musical follows the plot of the film and transports viewers to the Catskills during the summer of 1963. Frances Houseman falls under the spell of the charismatic dance instructor Johnny Castle during a family vacation.
Released in August 1987, the film was a runaway global success, grossing over $200 million worldwide. Its soundtrack was also a smash hit. The film’s signature song, ” The Time of My Life ,” even won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Years have passed, but Dirty Dancing ‘s success has not waned. The film remains a cornerstone of popular culture, and Baby and Johnny’s final dance—particularly their iconic lift—remains a symbol for an entire generation.
Tickets will go on sale from October 9th, following a pre-sale reserved for fans on October 8th.
