Sweden has been officially recognised as the world leader in museum density, with approximately 1,600 museums serving its 10.6 million residents, according to the 2027 edition of Guinness World Records. This equates to about 151 museums per million people, highlighting the country’s rich cultural landscape. Additionally, ABBA The Museum in Stockholm is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic song “Dancing Queen” with a special exhibition opening on 11 October 2026.

The exhibition at ABBA The Museum will explore the song’s journey from its initial studio title “Boogaloo” to its status as a global pop anthem. It will feature gold records, archival footage, and interactive installations. Museum Director Hanna Kimblad Einarsson remarked, “The exhibition explores why the track remains vibrant across generations.”

In Stockholm, the historic Gasometer will open as a new cultural venue on 17 March 2027, offering a unique blend of live performances and dining experiences. The venue, housed in a 19th-century gasholder, will feature a theatre and a restaurant led by chef Stefan Eriksson. The inaugural programme will be crafted by composer Jacob Mühlrad and artist Alexander Wessely.

Meanwhile, Sweden’s museum network continues to expand with unique collections, such as the Blekinge coat hanger museum and the High Coast surströmming museum. In July 2027, the National Music Museum will open in Västervik, further enriching Sweden’s cultural offerings.

These developments underscore Sweden’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its cultural heritage, attracting both local and international visitors.
