Miu Miu has never hesitated to introduce sportswear to the catwalk. For the Spring/Summer 2027 season, Miuccia Prada contrasted it with tailored pieces and evening wear, bringing a new precision and a dose of eclecticism to this combination.
The collection was presented in Paris, in front of an audience filled with famous faces, and once again showed what Miu Miu does best: giving a familiar wardrobe a second, more refined life.
Embellished bra-like tops were worn over stretchy sports tops, tracksuits were combined with blazers and blouses, while cocktail dresses were given unexpected company in the form of gorpcore- inspired sneakers.
The collection started with a question about everyday wardrobe.
“The reality of dressing today is this mix – sportswear, casual, normal,” Prada said in the show’s notes. “But how to make it all more interesting, richer? I wanted to find ways to bring beauty to this real wardrobe. The idea of mixing sporty elements with sophistication has always influenced my work. But I’ve never been that precise or gone that far.”
Micro shorts were reminiscent of swimsuit-inspired models, while cropped sports jerseys and tailored pieces further brought sports references into the collection. Geek-chic knits and plaid pieces worn low on the waist brought to mind that intellectual, slightly bookish side of the brand.
Some of the most memorable looks played with the tension between sportswear and formalwear. The patterned top was cinched in tightly at the waist, creating an almost hourglass silhouette over the sports jacket. Trousers had an elastic waistband, while dresses with thin straps were layered with rugby tops and tight bralettes.
Statement skirts were featured throughout the collection, including a gorgeous pleated skirt that Gigi Hadid wore with a sports bra turned inside out. They were reminiscent of Prada’s recent celebration of the skirt in the Spring/Summer 2027 collection, but still remained recognizably Miu Miu, thanks to the fusion of sporty aesthetics and elegance.
Textures also played an important role. The tumbled leather with a waxy laminated effect is left intentionally cracked and creased. Crystal-embellished details on satin and light evening materials are contrasted with metallic elements and criss-cross lacing. The denim pieces, created in collaboration with the Wrangler brand, had the impression of a pre-worn, relaxed wardrobe.
As per tradition, the clothes had the company of famous faces. The show featured Jamie Bell, Emma Corrin, Olivia Colman, Igby Rigney and Louisa Jacobson.
This season, many of the most memorable collections asked the same question: what do women really want from their everyday wardrobe? Is it a more sensual version of dressing, an edgier approach to classic pieces or sportswear with a new dose of sophistication?
Miu Miu, as always, found the fun in their pairing.
