She opted for one of the most popular and copied haircuts of all time: the bob.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has said goodbye to her mid-length hair in favor of what is arguably the most popular cut in the kingdom (and beyond): the bob. A major change for the princess, who hadn’t cut her hair this short for at least ten years, if not longer.

Although Sophie has sported much shorter and bolder cuts in the past, lately Prince Edward ‘s wife seemed to have vowed to stick with hair that fell below her shoulders, often gathered into soft, practical ponytails or styled into dramatic updos for the most formal occasions. But that’s all in the past now.

The royal has embraced the latest trends, which, amidst ever-evolving and creative styles and cuts, see the classic bob as one of the most popular, coveted, and chosen styles. Specifically, Sophie, Princess of Edinburgh, opted for a jaw-length version with soft, almost rounded lines, yet well-defined ends. The lifted, voluminous, and airy roots lend a more relaxed and natural touch to the overall look. Not to mention the subtle layering, particularly at the front, which, in addition to framing the face, adds movement and dimension.

The author of this makeover is Cristiano Basciu, director of Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa, a prestigious salon located in the heart of London, frequented by many celebrities and several members of the royal family, including, in fact, Duchess Sophie.

The princess unveiled her new hairstyle at the Groundswell Regenerative Agriculture Festival in Hitchin. A beautiful and daring hair transformation, which undoubtedly gives her a fresh, playful, yet undeniably refined look, and which comes at just the right time to combat the high temperatures of this season.
