The Hollywood couple flew to London to film The Prince and The Showgirl with actor Laurence Olivier in 1956, when Monroe had to register as an “alien”, a regulation that had come in during the Cold War due to security fears.

The officer who oversaw their registration at Weybridge Police Station asked the couple for their signatures, which they dedicated to his daughter, Gillian, and his son, Graham.

Gillian’s daughter has now consigned the autograph book to Ewbank’s auctioneers, in Woking, for sale on 29 May, where it is expected to fetch up to £600.

The actress, who signed her name Marilyn Monroe Miller, added her “love and kisses” to her signature.

Denise Kelly, Ewbank’s specialist, said: “This is a wonderful snapshot of a key moment in the lives of both Miller and Monroe as they embarked on what proved to be a short-lived marriage.

“The provenance is exceptional and the sale is taking place just as newly-discovered tape interviews with Miller about their relationship have come to light.”

Monroe and Miller were married from 1956 to 1961, with the couple beginning an extramarital affair in 1955.

During their time together, Monroe had a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy.

Earlier this month, Miller opened up about his short marriage to Monroe in newly unearthed taped conversations with his biographer Prof Christopher Bigsby, who transcribed them in a new book.

The album also contains the autographs of other Hollywood and British film and television stars of the day, including US actor and film producer Alan Ladd, British actor Richard Todd, plus artist and presenter Tony Hart.
