Feathers Are Back In Fashion!

As with all trends, sustainability becomes key when it comes to feathers. Many fashion houses today use ethically sourced or recycled materials, in order to reduce the negative impact on the environment. Although natural feathers are still used, brands are also experimenting with alternatives, such as artificial feathers or materials that imitate this texture.

After years of being reserved for extravagant red carpets and cabarets, feathers are returning to the big fashion scene. But now it comes in a much more modern and wearable version. It is no longer only for big events — it has become a trend that can be worn in everyday combinations. Fashion designers in 2025 have proven that feathers can be sophisticated, contemporary and, most importantly, wearable.

Prada, Loewe, Louis Vuitton — all these fashion houses are using feathers this season in a way that gives them a new dimension. From dresses used in evening combinations to feathered details on shoes and accessories, it has become versatile, easily blending into different styles and fashion looks.

How to wear feathers in 2025?

Although feathers have always been a symbol of excess and extravagance, today they are used in much more sophisticated and minimalist combinations. The key to successful feathering is balance. For example, a feathered top or trousers look perfect when paired with simple, clean pieces like a smart blazer, classic trousers or minimalist loafers. Also, feathered shoes or bags can be a great way to add a touch of this trend without experimenting too much.

For those who are not ready for the full “feathered” look, feathers can also be present in small details — in the form of jewelry, hair ornaments or even on cuffs. This trend can be discreet, but still noticeable, and gives any style dynamism and contemporary charm.

The history of feathers in fashion

Feathers are not new to the fashion world. It has had various roles for centuries — from a symbol of power to pure extravagance. During the Victorian era, feathers were the adornment of haute couture, proudly adorning large hats and lavish gowns. Over the years, due to concerns about the poaching of the birds, it has slowly faded out of common fashion use.

However, at the beginning of the 20th century, feathers found their place in fashion again, this time on glamorous Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe and Ginger Rogers. Feathers became synonymous with luxury and glamour, and by the end of the 60s, they had also become part of the music scene. Stars like Mick Jagger and Cher wore feather wings, making it a symbol not only of wealth, but also of freedom and extravagance.

Today, feathers are making a comeback, but in a much more modern form. Designers use it in a way that is not just about glamour, but to create a versatile, sculptural and even “quirky” look. Although it bears all the characteristics of the old days, feathers now have a much simpler and wearable character.

Given the increasing attention to environmental protection, fashion with feathers today has a much more sustainable character, and designers are increasingly opting for ethical alternatives.

For feather lovers who want to keep up with sustainable practices, there is also the option of purchasing vintage pieces or those that use materials not taken from natural sources, yet retain the aesthetic effect of feathers.

This trend is much more than a fashion experiment. Regardless of your style, age or type of event, feathers are making a comeback and deserve to become a key element of your wardrobe.
