Belarus: Embassy Confirms Arrest of Japanese Citizen

The Japanese Embassy in Minsk said a Japanese citizen was arrested in Belarus, confirming local press reports that a Japanese national had been detained earlier this month near the border with Ukraine after recording videos.

The man was reportedly arrested after recording a video of a car viaduct in Gomel

The embassy refused to provide personal information about the arrested individual or the charges brought against him by authorities in the Eastern European country.

A Japanese man was reportedly arrested on December 1 after recording a video of a car viaduct in Gomel, in the south-east of the country. Another Japanese citizen, a teacher named Masatoshi Nakanishi, was arrested in Gomel last July on espionage charges
