The police in Austria are searching for a 56-year-old hunter who is said to have shot two people. According to the authorities, one of the victims is the mayor of the 1,000-inhabitant community of Kirchberg ob der Donau in Upper Austria . The 64-year-old local politician from the conservative ÖVP is said to have been hit by the fatal shots on a meadow.
The second dead man was also a man, the police said. Since both victims were involved in hunting, a dispute between hunters is considered a possible motive. According to the “Kronen Zeitung”, fellow hunters are said to have made accusations against the suspect. He is said to have been threatened with losing his hunting license.
“Heute” also reports on fierce disputes over hunting rights. According to the report, the Rohrbach district headquarters is said to have been closed for security reasons and public access temporarily suspended.
Do not contact the person you are looking for
The search for the suspect, who is still considered to be extremely dangerous, is in full swing. “All available forces, including the special unit Cobra, are on site,” said a police spokeswoman. As the “Kronen Zeitung” reports, the residents of the community no longer dare to go out on the streets for fear of the fugitive.
According to the police, the perpetrator is considered “very dangerous” and “armed”. If anyone discovers the wanted man, they should not contact him themselves but immediately alert the police, the authorities urged caution. As the “Standard” reports, there are still no concrete indications as to where the perpetrator might be.
As “Today” was able to find out, the bloody deeds were preceded by fierce disputes over hunting law. For security reasons, the Rohrbach district administration has now been closed and public access has been temporarily suspended.
