Margaret, meanwhile, opted for a simple evening look, wearing a semi-sheer black jersey dress. The actresses star in the thriller Substance, which opens worldwide next month after a high-profile premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this spring. Demi, 61, plays fitness instructor Elizabeth Sparkle, who takes an experimental drug designed to turn her into a younger, fitter version of herself.
Margaret, 29, plays Sue, the young woman Elizabeth transforms into. The film received rave reviews and a 13-minute standing ovation at its premiere in Cannes in May.
The thriller was also a sensation because Demi took part in a racy scene in which she was completely naked. She previously told Variety that filming the scenes was easy because she had the support of her co-star Qualley.
“I had someone who was a great partner and I felt really safe with. We were pretty close in the moments where we had to be naked and we joked a lot about how absurd things were. It’s about real communication and trust,” Moore said.
Demi’s co-star Dennis Quaid called her return to Cannes “an incredible act” at a press conference after the film’s screening at the festival. “Substance” will be released on September 20.
