The visuals, the imagination, the costumes and the materials used in the production really amazed me. “That’s when I realized that this is what I want to do,” he said in an interview with George V Magazine.
Koma graduated from high school at the age of 15 and immediately presented his first collection. David, a teenager, had already given his heart to the world of fashion, “I liked the designers, judges, and the models around them very much… At that time, I tried out for all the competitions held in London. That’s how everything started,” he recalled in an interview with Interview magazine in 2011.

His academic career continued at Central Saint Matins, one of the leading design schools in London. She graduated in 2009 under the tutelage of Harrods Design Award-winning Louise Wilson. The reason for joining the school, which has a high reputation in its field, he said, “When I was 14 years old, my mother gave me a book about important fashion designers and where they studied. That’s when I found out about Saint Martins,” he said to with George V Magazine.
The next goal of the young talent, who finished listening to the book of his profession, was to create his own brand. The David Koma brand is still going strong and is one of the regulars at London Fashion Week. Over the course of her career, she has won numerous awards and has made a name for herself with her sculpted, feminine gowns that include Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Hailey Bieber, Adele, and Olivia Rodrigo as clients.
An important event in his life happened in 2014, when he was offered a job as the creative director of Thierry Mugler. In this regard, Koma said, “I always knew that one day I would get such an offer. When they offered me the whole process was very simple. “During the entire interview, I was completely myself.” However, the reason why he was chosen as creative director of Thierry Mugler was described by Virginie Courtin-Clarance, who is in charge of brand development, marketing and communication: “We needed a real couture designer.” David Koma presented his debut collection on June 14, 2014, and handed over his position in 2017.
When he started working at Thierry Mugler, he criticizes that the brand had no concept, no team, no customers. David said, “My friends told me, ‘How lucky you are to work in such a big and famous company!’ used to say a lot. But they did not see and did not know what the reality was. I am otherwise proud of the renaissance of Mugler. But now there are wonderful studios, skilled workers and talented designers. I don’t feel bad at all that it all fell into the hands of a new creative director. On the contrary, I feel a lot of respect and joy.”
As Koma’s years at Mugler came to an end, he began to focus more on his own label. We continue to create feminine and minimal designs in various shapes. Sometimes even sportswear is produced. Her interest in sports fashion grew and she co-founded her own swimwear brand, Let’s Swim, with her teammate.
