A 55-year-old woman is accused of attacking a Utica police officer while being taken into custody for prostitution.
Utica police said Julie Mitchell, of Utica, was taken into custody for prostitution-related offenses on Friday, during which she started fighting with officers. The officers were able to subdue and handcuff Mitchell, authorities said, adding that one officer sustained an injured shoulder.
Julie Mitchell allegedly began to struggle with the officers, resisting arrest.
“During the struggle, the officers continued to attempt to take Mitchell into custody when an officer injured his shoulder during her resistance,” according to a release detailing the event.
Officers managed to handcuff her, transport her to the station and file charges against her.
The injured officer sought medical attention and was “placed out of work for an undetermined amount of time,” according to officials.
Mitchell is charged with felony second-degree assault, prostitution and resisting arrest, authorities said. The injured officer sought medical treatment and has been placed out of work for the time being, officials said.
