1. Forgetting your glasses
Expression lines that are marked several times end up, over time, transforming into deeper wrinkles. “The wrinkles on the upper face are dynamic wrinkles, very linked to our expressions. There are things that we can’t help doing, like raising our eyebrows or frowning. But there are also other times when we have developed bad habits and we can think about combating them,” explains Nina Roos. For example, if you wear glasses, you should always wear them in front of your computer, the television or a book. Don’t hesitate to check that the correction is still suitable by making an appointment with your ophthalmologist. This will reduce the frown line. In the summer, wear your sunglasses even in the water where the glare is strong. This way, you avoid squinting. Brightness creates wrinkles, even more so for light and sensitive eyes.
2. Letting a dental problem drag on
The expert adds: “We also think about relaxing the muscles of our forehead as soon as we think about it. Becoming aware of their contraction and then relaxing them is a beneficial exercise. The same goes for wrinkles around the mouth if our jaw is a little too tense.” During the day, we scan ourselves regularly to relax and smooth out our face. Regarding the lower part of the face, we should think about going to the dentist at the slightest dental problem because some can cause tension if we let them drag on for too long. Similarly, if we have bruxism (grinding our teeth at night), we should wear a suitable mouth guard to alleviate the symptoms on the lower part of the face.
3. Not applying your cream properly
When it comes to facial care, it’s important to find a routine that’s right for your skin type. Dehydration can create fine lines that usually disappear when you correct the situation and opt for fairly moisturizing skincare. When it comes to day cream and night cream, apply them from the center outwards using circular massages. “They help activate microcirculation. Which is always beneficial for eliminating toxins and boosting cells by oxygenating them,” says the dermatologist. Another tip for relaxing your face? Add a gua sha or jade roller to your skincare routine. These tools will relax your facial muscles, which helps slow down the onset of wrinkles. Our pro also recommends using a daily sunscreen, including to combat the harmful effects of blue light on your skin.
