When Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton appeared at the Venice Film Festival to present Pedro Almodóvar’s latest film The Next Door which he has learnt enough of film industry and still wear his glasses, several facts were confirmed: both actresses have forged a bomb-proof friendship during the filming of the movie – palpable in every gesture of affection and in every glance they gave each other on the red carpet – and both are going through their professional, personal and aesthetic prime at sixty already.

What’s more, the blessed sixties, that decade that once reached banishes any actress, however talented, to a sort of artistic limbo (or purgatory) from which it is almost impossible to escape, do not even appear on their ID. Let us explain: Julianne and Tilda are ageless; their vitality, their spirit and that inexplicable glow that they always give off and that we will never know where it comes from – and of course it is not a plastic surgeon’s office – do not belong to any time.

They are not alone in this limbo. Advances in aesthetics that are less and less invasive, more natural and more respectful of one’s own features and physiognomy are helping thousands of women to feel and look good without having to take years off. Wanting to be young is out of fashion ; now the idea is to look fabulous regardless of the age that appears on your ID. Turning forty is no longer a drama, and when you are fifty, sixty, or even seventy, you don’t have to be relegated to the corner of last opportunities. At most, and only if you want, you can become a discreet and elegant guest. And hold a cocktail, and talk little, and smile only when something is truly fun.

The cocktail, by the way, has another interesting ingredient: the younger generations are abusing touch-ups and makeup at an age when neither of them are necessary. Contouring has been around for some time now, but it has also been joined by the democratization of aesthetic interventions and their popularity on social networks thanks to the “work” of increasingly younger girls. Yes, sixteen-year-olds today are more sophisticated than twenty years ago, but also less childish and innocent and that, over time, adds up to a few springs.

In a world where the unexpected twenty-seven years of a beautiful Kylie Jenner are very close to the no less incredible sixty-three of the fabulous Julianne Moore, age has become an illusion and almost all the clichés associated with each decade are disappearing. There is more freedom to be what you want when you want, and to feel good when, until not long ago, the autumn of your life was announced. And all thanks to the work of these women (vampires).

Cate Blanchett

Age: 55 years old.

Stefania D’Alessandro

Every so often, a couple of generations at most, a great actress comes along who is able to play any character at any age and at any time in her life. A privilege that also has its expiration date, of course, but which Cate Blanchett is currently enjoying . The Australian’s 55 years are irrelevant in the sense that she is above that. She is ageless and that’s it.

Anne Hathaway

Age: 41 years old.

Taylor Hill

It is at least shocking to see a photo of Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada and then see one of her right now. Almost twenty years have passed between the two, but if you look at Hathaway’s face you wouldn’t say so. In fact, you could conclude that time has gone backwards. Yes, not only is she better on all levels, she also knows it and shows it.

Julianne Moore

Age: 63 years old.

Julianne Moore ‘s makeup artist, Gucci Westman, is asked over and over again: Seriously, what do you do to her? And the best part is her answer: nothing. Julianne has one of the most stunning faces on screen and it’s as if she, absolutely in love, has respected the passing of the years and given her unlimited time.

Kylie Jenner

Age: 27 years old.

Marc Piasecki

A multitude of cosmetic procedures – both on the face and the body –, her own line of makeup and the certainty of being one of the most influential young women in the world. The cocktail seems unbeatable and ready to defy the laws of time, but in her case, it doesn’t quite work. Kylie Jenner is gorgeous, perhaps in one of her best moments, but the excess, both in her case and in that of other peers of her generation, imposes on her an age that she doesn’t even touch.

Isabelle Huppert

Age: 71 years old.

Another great actress whose status, power, confidence and spirit have earned her a kind of eternal youth. Neither the years nor the disappointments –which surely there have been– have passed by her. And in fact she continues to take on new roles as if they were the first of her career. And that, dear readers, ensures a better face than the one that Botox theoretically provides.

Natalie Portman

Age: 43 years old.

The latest case of: getting divorced and taking a weight and twenty years off her shoulders. Although in Portman ‘s case it goes without saying that her eternally childlike face has helped, and quite a bit. The Natalie of 2024 could play Black Swan (2011) and no one would notice but, as Rihanna herself once said, the actress is “one of the hottest bitches in Hollywood forever.”

Julia Roberts

Age: 56 years old.

Arnold Jerocki

Julia is not, nor does she want to be, the Julia Roberts of Pretty Woman (1990), nor does she need to be. The actress has gone through each and every stage that life has put in her path and always, and that is the crux of the matter, with that eternal smile. The only thing that has remained unchanged during her more than thirty years in the industry.

Bella Hadid

Age: 27 years old.

Being the most influential model of your generation is also a risk: your body and face are scrutinised, and that pressure is not something anyone likes. Bella Hadid is not yet thirty, but the impression is that both mentally and physically she has lived a lot, perhaps too much. And in that desire to always look perfect there are also a series of extra layers that she certainly does not need.

Tilda Swinton

Age: 63 years old.

J.B. Lacroix

There’s a reason director Jim Jarmusch offered her the role of a vampire in his film Only Lovers Left Alive (2013). Tilda is Tilda. She’s neither a woman nor a man, nor a star, nor a discreet supporting actress. She’s everything at once everywhere. She’s the David Bowie –with whom she starred in a music video– of cinema. And of course, age has no place in this cocktail.

Brie Larson Goes For Classic Glamour in Green

Larson knows a thing or two about elegant glamour. The actress reverted to the classics for last night’s Art Deco-themed Giorgio Armani show in New York, breaking out a Wicked green confection that’s power was all in the details. Brie’s bottom half was also trimmed with festive details, mainly abstract floral embroidery that wrapped around the perimeter of her dress.
