After several years of waiting since the premiere of its first season, one of the best fictions of the genre returns with a new case that will leave you breathless.

ive years have passed since we enjoyed a fabulous Nordic noir series that arrived on streaming services without much fanfare, but gradually captured the attention of fans. Its plot began with the brutal murder of a woman in a quiet Copenhagen park; she was missing a hand, and beside her lay a strange doll. The police knew this would be the key clue to finding the killer. This series, titled “The Hartung Case,” was reminiscent of the most addictive stories by Camilla Läckberg or Stieg Larsson, international icons of the genre.

If you’re a fan of this series and didn’t miss the first season, take note: the second installment of this Danish show has just arrived. It’s once again based on a novel by Soren Sveistrup, titled ‘The Holst Case’. In these six thrilling episodes that make up the new season, we go back in time to see the first piece of the puzzle that the plot becomes, a puzzle involving a body found in a forest nest during a children’s outing.

After a time jump, we find ourselves shortly after the events of the first season. The disappearance of a woman who had been receiving threats on her cell phone for some time brings Detective Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) and her partner Mark Hess (Mikkel Folsgaard) back together to investigate the case and, in doing so, try to heal old wounds. The crime centers on a killer who plays hide-and-seek with his victims and intimidates them with a children’s song. As they begin their investigation, they discover a link to the death of a young woman years earlier, whose mother will play a crucial role in solving the mystery.

‘The Holst Case’ once again uses somber settings and tense moments to captivate us, offering a twisted and unpredictable plot, something that is appreciated in this type of series where it’s usually easy to guess what’s going to happen. In fact, this season features an incident, which we won’t reveal to avoid spoiling the experience, that breaks all the rules and leaves the possibility of a third season hanging in the balance.

Amidst the investigation, themes like abuse, toxic relationships, and infidelity creep in—issues that affect mental health and act as weapons of destruction within the story. “It’s just as chilling as the previous season,” says Decider, while ScreenRant calls it “one of the best Netflix series of all time.” Certainly within the suspense genre, and that’s why everyone is talking about it.
