Three days ago, Jennifer Lawrence was spotted cycling around New York City, a silk scarf tied around a washed-out baseball cap. At the time, we thought it a nod to the hair accessory trend of the season. Now, we suspect, it was to hide her new hair colour: a toasted, summer brunette.
Seen walking through Manhattan, Lawrence’s new hair is decidedly darker than her usual honeyed, buttery blonde. Thrown up into a floppy bun, the colour is warm and red-toned, like a chestnut or acorn, though her bangs – a swooped, wavy curtain fringe – and tips are still inflected with lighter, blonde highlights. A welcome addition to the summer hair colour roster, Lawrence proves going darker works no matter the time of year.
It’s not the first time the actress has switched things up. For Silver Linings Playbook, she dyed her hair a rich, chocolate brown. Then, to play Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games film franchise, she adopted the instantly recognisable brunette plait. Since then, though, the star has remained resolutely blonde – besides a fleeting red moment for Don’t Look Up in 2021. Granted, that was a very convincing wig.
As for her heatwave style, Lawrence debuted her new hair with a few summer staples: a lace-trimmed slip skirt, Grecian sandals, a faded fitted t-shirt and a red suede bag. Like her low-key hair reveal, Lawrence remains our summer style icon – right down to her jammy red pedicure.
