Steinmeier: Berlin and Ankara Convinced That The “Two-State Solution” Is The Only Option

“We agree with Turkey that lasting peace in the Middle East will be possible through the two-state solution,” German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier told reporters after his recent visit to Turkey. “Turkey and Germany are indispensable to each other,” he further underlined, noting the importance of this visit for relations between the two countries which, he recalled, are allies within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The German president gave a positive assessment of his recent visit to Turkey, which he described as an indispensable ally.

Germany and Turkey share the belief that the two-state solution is the basis for lasting peace in the Middle East, despite the difference in views between the two countries on conflicts in the Middle East.

The German president described the discussions he had in Turkey as constructive, stressing that every minute of these discussions was important.

The German president also welcomed the reconstruction efforts deployed in the regions affected by the earthquake of February 6, 2023, expressing his country’s readiness to support this effort.

He also mentioned his visit to a German logistics company based at Istanbul airport, welcoming the presence of the first digital transformation office within the framework of the European Research and Development Center in Istanbul.
