Elle’s look was not just any little black dress. This one had a plunging V neckline that went down almost to the star’s bellybutton, where a tiny bow adorned the front. The midi skirt was subtly pleated at the sides. But, by far the most interesting detail of the piece was the sleeves—which were not really sleeves, rather black leather opera gloves that extended from Fanning’s fingers all the way to her shoulders. It’s unclear if they were attached to the dress, as the midi featured large cutouts at the ribs.
The mix of materials created a striking contrast, while the leather sleeves added a welcome biker-core spin to the black-tie ensemble. It’s the kind of funky twist we’ve come to expect from Fanning, whose style is endlessly chic, but also quite daring.
This time, she finished her red-carpet look with silky black slingback pumps, a magnificent white diamond necklace, a dramatic black cat eye, and a bright red lip. Her honey-blonde hair was styled in a wavy Hollywood bob.
Earlier this year, the star of The Great star spoke to George V Magazine about her and big sister Dakota Fanning’s different but complementary personal styles. “I think Dakota’s very classic. I’m classic too, but with a twist,” she said. “She’s a little bit more laid-back. There have been times when she’s looked at me and she’s like, ‘Okay, you’re going to wear that?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ And I think she loves me for that, but I kind of make a bolder choice, whereas she just wants to look beautiful and clean and chic. I get to be the crazy one. I think that younger-older sister dynamic is classic.”
