US rapper Travis Scott left the stage in Istanbul after just 20 minutes.
A performance by the US rapper Travis Scott in Istanbul has angered Turkish fans. Many complained on social media that the musician only performed for about 20 minutes on Sunday evening. According to the state news agency Anadolu, Scott actually took to the sRtage an hour late. Footage circulating online showed the 35-year-old leaving the stage to angry boos from the audience.
In a brief Instagram post a few hours later, Travis Scott addressed the events of the evening and defended himself. He wrote that he had simply wanted to support “a friend’s big day” as a host. He added that he was already looking forward to coming back soon and performing “properly” for his fans again.
The event had been advertised as an exclusive concert with only 2,500 fans. According to reports, Scott’s performance was to last 90 minutes, with lesser-known artists performing before and after.
The concert, which took place at the event venue “Tersane Istanbul Grand Factory”, had generated great anticipation for months and attracted thousands of visitors.
Outraged fans complain about Trevor Scott’s brief appearance
“We waited for hours standing up, he sang a song and left. We wasted our money,” wrote visitor Ala Artan on Instagram. Another user, who stated that he had paid more than €1,100 for a VIP ticket, demanded a refund from the organizer, TemaCC.
TemaCC’s CEO, Taylan Özcan, defended Scott’s performance in a statement quoted by several Turkish media outlets. According to the statement, Scott “was the center of attention all evening” and delivered an “extraordinary 20-minute performance.”
Criticism for veiled face – “Fake Travis”?
Some attendees also criticized Scott for the fact that his face was largely obscured by clothing and accessories during the performance. As the newspaper “Birgün” reports, some fans even suspected a “fake Travis” because of this.
For the strictly limited number of tickets, fans had to register in advance. The cheapest tickets cost 30,000 lira – almost the amount of the monthly minimum wage in Turkey, equivalent to 560 euros. The announcement stated that Scott would deliver a performance in Istanbul “that goes beyond a classical concert” and creates a “club atmosphere.” A DJ set played for several hours before Scott’s performance.
Scott is scheduled to perform at a club in Izmir on Monday evening. According to the organizers, a similar show to the one in Istanbul is planned. Ticket prices on the Biletino website ranged from €185 to €4,300.
