Japan’s Hitachi Energy, Ltd. will invest $22.5 million to enhance its existing operations in Bland County and establish a new warehouse facility in Atkins, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin revealed Friday. The project is expected to generate 120 new jobs.

The company will allocate $12.5 million to modernize its Bland facility, creating 80 new jobs, Hitachi Energy confirmed in a press release. The upgrades will boost manufacturing capacity and enhance assembly capabilities. Additionally, the company has acquired a 75,000-square-foot facility in Smyth County.

“The new facility in Atkins, alongside the upgrades at our existing site in Bland, represents a major milestone in our commitment to building resilient energy infrastructure in the US,” Senior Vice President and Head of Transformers, North America, Hitachi Energy, Steve McKinney, commented. “Virginia has been an essential part of our manufacturing story for over 50 years, and this expansion reflects our confidence in the region’s skilled workforce and strong support for innovation.”
