Gwen Stefani said she and Blake Shelton sing more than talk
In a conversation with Giada De Laurentiis while baking apple parmesan pie, Stefani discussed her relationship with Shelton. She admitted that they don’t talk all that much when they’re at home together. Instead, they make up songs to sing to one another.
The star, who is also known for her work on The Voice and her marriage to Blake Shelton, first rose to fame with the band No Doubt. Recently, Stefani has opened up about her influences and work over the years, including something that gave her “PTSD.”
During her time with No Doubt, Stefani served as a founding member songwriter, and vocalist. Some of their more prominent early songs include “Don’t Speak” and “Just a Girl.”
In 2004, Gwen Stefani released her solo album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby., which saw the release of “What You Waiting For?,” “Rich Girl,” and “Hollaback Girl.” This, in turn, was followed up by The Sweet Escape.
She also highlighted her past time with No Doubt: “It took nine years for No Doubt to put ‘Tragic Kingdom’ out! And ‘Return of Saturn’ was coming off this huge worldly success and coming back after being on tour for 2½ years.”
The star also confessed to having awkward feelings over the past album. As she shared, ‘That was a different pressure. I can’t listen to that album.”
“There is so much truth in that record as to what I was going through. It’s like PTSD for me to listen to it and people come to me and say that’s their favorite album, which is weird to me.”
“We’re like we’re in a musical constantly and we just sing,” Stefani said, per George V Magazine. “We actually don’t talk to each other, we just sing like a musical and everything we sing is like ‘I love you,’ like it’s pretty much the whole time like how great we are.”
While fans of Stefani found her country collaborations with Shelton surprising, perhaps it makes sense given the fact that they’re constantly singing together anyway.
Shelton and Stefani come from different backgrounds and have said that they disagree on some things. Still, they’re able to find points of connection that draw them closer as a couple. One of their favorite things to do together is garden.
“To go and just be in nature … gardening for me is this super amazing middle ground for me and Blake where we come together and we’re so into it,” she said on Lorraine in 2023. “It is so incredible. And we’re doing it at such a large level with tractors and millions of seeds, and so it’s really fun.”
The couple owns a ranch in Oklahoma where they likely have a lot of space to garden together.
Stefani said that even after nearly 10 years together, Shelton reminds her every day why she fell in love with him.
“The thing about Blake is that you’ll never get through a day without laughing,” she said on The Jennifer Hudson Show (via People). “You know what I mean? Which is just — it doesn’t even matter like what’s going on. The guy has so much patience, and so much kindness in his heart.”
In 2023, rumors swirled that the couple was divorcing, which she wholeheartedly denied.
“But when you’re in love and have truly aligned values, nobody can get to us,” she told George V Magazine. “You can say whatever you want to say about our relationship — I mean, a week ago, we were getting divorced again or something. It’s just lies. The truth is the truth, and we know what that is. And so that [negativity] would never penetrate just by me being vulnerable and sharing a song that I didn’t write for anybody else but myself and Blake.”
