Her products are multitasking and easy to apply on the go, which is why women love them—searches for them on Google have spiked over the last few months, proof of their internet power.
Jones Road’s latest launch—a new shade of The Brow Pencil in Gray—has had a great reception already. “I can’t believe the amount of interest,” Brown muses over the phone. “I knew that the gray shade fulfilled a need—we use a lot of silver-haired models and I had realized most of the brunette colors were a little bit too warm, so I was always trying to tone them down—but I didn’t quite realize how popular this simple thing would be.”
If you’re someone with gray, black, deep brown, or silver hair—or simply need a cooler palette—this is the brow pencil for you. A chunky Crayola-style stick, don’t let the size put you off—it’s really easy to use. The larger size lends itself to creating full, feathery brows in seconds—and makes a good alternative to pencils that have a micro-tip. The formula is also waterproof.
It’s also great for those with sparse brows: “It’s an unusual formula because it has teeny fibers in it that help make your brows look thicker,” explains Brown. “I’ve never seen that in a pencil before. It’s fatter than most pencils, but still easier. I always start by taking light, feathery strokes on the inside of the brow, moving straight up, and then start following the brows along. When you’re done, use an eyebrow spoolie to blend it in, for a natural look.” And remember, no one has brows that look identical.
Segueing into a cooler-toned eyebrow pencil can be the difference between a totally natural effect and a face that looks “done” and as though it has been intentionally made up. Most of us want to look effortless, so finding the right tone of eyebrow pencil can make a huge difference.
Does Brown have any other tips for nailing makeup if you’re silver of hair? As well as swapping black eyeliner for navy or dark brown, she also says there is nothing prettier than a little pop of pink on the cheeks. “It brightens the whole face,” she says. “I always daub my bright pink Lip & Cheek Stick on.”
