The comments by Tesla and SpaceX boss Elon Musk, stating that Quebec should separate from Canada, did little to convince the panelists of La Joute .
“He is discrediting himself. We know that very well. That is to say, there is someone who knows a little bit about Canada and we know that the independence movement in Quebec cannot be compared to Saskatchewan or Alberta,” said political analyst Rodolphe Husny on Wednesday evening.
“I think that when we think back to René Lévesque, when we think of Pauline Marois, when we think of Jacques Parizeau, they didn’t wait for Donald Trump and Elon Musk to want to be independent and then to campaign for Quebec sovereignty,” she stated.
Former Health Minister Gaétan Barrette believes that Elon Musk’s comments will not change anything in the political sphere in the Canadian province.
“In Quebec, we are totally immune to this kind of comment coming from the United States and from Musk. Listen, just saying Musk is enough. We don’t talk about it anymore,” he mentioned.
Rodolphe Husny points out that federalists would be wrong to use the billionaire’s words to attack the Parti Québécois.
“The CAQ tried it during the campaign, and then we saw what happened. It blew up in their faces,” he quipped.
