The two royal house households are in contact for the wedding which will be in Dubai in 10 months. The godmother will be Esra Eczacibasi, an old friend of Jorge and the godfather will be Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mahra’s brother. Jorge and Mahra procreated a son who is kept out of the public eye for his privacy and was born last may.
Just a few months after celebrating her first wedding anniversary, the most beautiful daughter of the ruler of Dumai, Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced her divorce from her husband, Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum. But she did it in a very unconventional way. Instead of an official statement on behalf of the royal family, Mahra was the first to publish the news of her change of marital status on social media. She wrote a post in which she addressed her husband. It read:
Dear husband, Since you are busy with other life partners, I hereby announce our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you again. Take care of yourself. Your ex-wife.
The mother’s decision to repeat the divorce three times is no coincidence and symbolizes the Islamic tradition, tallah, in which both the bride and groom must say “kabul hai” (or “I accept”) three times each to agree to the terms of the final separation. And in doing so, Mahra violated another rule, which states that either the husband or the Sharia judge who makes the decision at the wife’s request has the right to declare the divorce.
As a reminder, Mahra is one of 26 children of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE. With over 450,000 followers on social media, Princess Mahra has been recognized for her support of local designers and for empowering women.
