Cate Blanchett Wore An Extra Large Gold Hammered Bird Necklace With An Oversized Suit

Taking “statement jewelry” to a whole new level in fact, the actress has said the audience will be “surprised by the way the narrative unfolds” in her new TV series, Disclaimer.

The 55-year-old stars as journalist Catherine Ravenscroft in the seven-part Apple TV+ drama, which will be screened at the BFI London Film Festival on Thursday evening, and she was also an executive producer on the project.

Disclaimer follows Catherine as she discovers she is a prominent character in a novel which reveals a secret she has been trying to keep hidden.

Speaking to the AP news agency at the film festival, the Australian actress said she hoped watchers would “stick with it through to the end”.

“The reason why you make these things is for the audience, and I don’t think I’ve ever had a kind of more anticipatory kind of sense of what’s going to happen and what they’re going to make of it I’m really excited for it to air on Friday, because I’m curious.”

Rather than wear a typical undershirt beneath her blazer, Blanchett opted to make a bold fashion statement by going topless—save for the massive pendant necklace hanging around her neck. The accessory, custom-made by 886 Royal Mint Jewelry, featured a large hammered gold ornament, designed in the shape of a bird amid flight.

To finish off the look, the actor coordinated with more gold via small earring cuffs, plus glossy pointed-toe pumps and a black leather belt.

Blanchett is known for her sophisticated and occasionally quirky red-carpet style, all while championing sustainable fashion. Back in August, she attended the Borderlands premiere in a halter top decked out with 102 spoons. Hodakova, the brand responsible for the unique ensemble, is known for upcycling and repurposing materials.

“We’ve seen over the last decade it used to be seasonal, now it’s trans-seasonal, multiseasonal, and brands are designing for outlet stores,” Blanchett previously reflected in a 2020 interview with George V Magazine. “When you know the world is consuming 18 billion pieces of clothing a year, which is up 400 percent from a decade ago, you think, this is not working.”
